I don't know about you but to be quite honest I don't really care if the players that the mighty SVEN are so called 'Big Names', I would rather that he brought a mix of young talent that are really hungry for success and with bags of potential and some old sweats that are scrappers and have the knowledge and experience to get us out of this god forsaken league up into the promised land. This is exactly what QPR did last season, it is all very well getting in a host of ex prem has beens or reserves but this was shown last season to not work (granted he did not have a lot of choice but this way). I want some permanent signings that have only one allegiance and that is to THIS club not another one that they are hoping to break into in the future. We should try to stop being a stepping stone for players.
TBF I'm not sure Sven has been chasing any big names this summer, apart from Given, unless I've missed something? Completely agree though, we don't need any sideshows or headline news, we just need to get the best players for the job, whether they are big names or not. I think Sven, from what we can gather, has been chasing the right kind of player, it's just getting them to come that's the problem. Sadly if we're after high quality players we are going to be turned down by a few.
Half agree, problem is, he doesn't need young talent, he needs proven players that will dig their heels in at this level, theres no point in buying "potential" when he needs to deliver this season.
I think Sven is going for players who he feels can make a difference to the team regardless of whether they are in the Premirer League or not. I think he's always said big name players won't want to play in the Championship and it's more the case the papers come up with the names than him.
I would say Sven has made enquiries about players as most managers will have, their agents then leak stories to newspapers etc. and this drives the demands up of the player, this happens with all clubs/players, it's buisness! We will get new players in, but as stated in another post we are one of the best option outside the prem so will probably have to wait a while as they find out they are not wanted by prem clubs before we get a chance.
