After Nigel Pearson's challenge are Bristol City's players impressing their way to new deals? A number of notable names will see their contracts expire next summer including Dan Bentley, Tomas Kalas and Jay Dasilva https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-city-nigel-pearson-deals-7744969 Towards the beginning of the season, Nigel Pearson sent a message to those Bristol City players who are reaching the end of their contracts.? All those 3 have been/are first team players for the most part when fit. I get the need to trim the wage bill - but hey why not sell the whole squad and put the Ashton Gate real estate, plus Failand up for development - we'll have LOADS of money then......but no football club !!! Seriously, if we let them go then they need to be replaced. We can't just let them walk with nobody coming in.
yep time for Nige to rebuild with a squad he can call his own. He hopefully will be backed next season and given funds like LJ got. Deep down NP is very frustrated with this hot and cold squad.
Not sure that's how your Nige works mate.. He's often been quoted that he doesn't want to just buy for the sake of, especially if he feels they are no better than what we have....basically, if you gave him a blank cheque book, I'm not sure he'd know what to do with it.. I feel he still needs to prove that he can manage with what he has got......maybe his tactics, selections, subs and style of play runs hot and cold.. Defending should be his forte........he's had plenty of time, but seems to be failing imo..
So the only one that can get him money will be Semenyo, and you want him to have as much money LJ. You’ve binned off 2 Keepers 4 Defenders (including Dasilva) 1 Midfielder 3 Attackers. Plus it’s known we have a small squad, and you’ve binned 11 more of them.2 of them keepers leaving an unknown keeper that none of us have seen. But to you I suppose because Sir Nige bought must mean he’s fantastic. How much are we getting for Semenyo 30 plus million? You need to stop going on about what LJ had and start understanding he had it in drabs over 4 years with big sales most of seasons end. Making more money selling than buying, and we still ended up facing FFP.
What funds? If he lets their contracts run out and they go for nothing. LJ, or moreover MA sold to buy. You won’t like to admit it, but the vast majority of money spent in that tenure was generated through player sales! It all started with the sale of Kodja. NP hasn’t brought anyone to the club worthy of generating good transfer fees, and seems intent on letting contracts runout for players rather than try to sell them. That is a far more suicidal policy for our club than LJ and MA had in place!
Times are chalk & cheese now, transfer fees aren’t about anymore, Nige explained that far better than I can. Nobody is going to buy one of our players,, other than possibly Semenyo, Conway, or Scott. & even then we aren’t going to get mega bucks for them. The others are on contracts that no one else is going to want to take on. Their contracts will therefore run down and they’ll have to renegotiate new, much lower ones, with whichever club offers the best deal, that may or may not be us. In the meantime we’ll be looking around for out of contract players that are better than the ones we already have. Times are completely different now.
That’s what you’re being told. Take Vyner as an example in the summer. If no one was prepared to pay a fee set within the club, then lower the fee. All footballers have a price, sometimes your price has to reflect the player not the price you want. If we got £250k, it would be better than letting him go for free.
That’s the point you get free agents and use the money on wages. Other clubs are in the same boat, plus you use youngsters , like we are doing with Semenyo, Scott, Conway etc. The academy is going to more than come into its own. With so many having made it into our first team, plus the facility at the HPC they’re looking to attract some of the best youngster.
Then why not take £250k and use the free market one year sooner, or youngsters. We would then have money building in the pot.
I agree - but that was only working when the market was buoyant. Covid caused a collapse. Players stock tumbled and we were left stuck with players on expensive wages. A bit like buying and selling houses; it works well during a boom, but in a crash you get stuck paying an expensive mortgage on a house you can’t sell unless you are willing to make a loss. Nobody could have predicted it - otherwise everyone would be £millionaires.
Bristol City lose £412,000 a week and they’re not the worst https://www.football365.com/news/opinion-bristol-city-losses-pandemic-championship-opinion
Interesting that we have been losing over £400k a week for the last 10 years. Kinda blows the myth it was all down to LJ and MA… I also note the stadium and HPC costs were mentioned, which I have always said is what I believe has hurt our finances as much as player wages.
I imagine they’d have considered all options and decided on the best way forward. Like our players that are still in contract the same will be true for others, you can’t buy them before their contracts are up, you have to wait for players to become available. Like for instance Bents or Kalas etc, they will run their present contracts down, in the knowledge when they are up, any new contract will be considerably lower.
