I like the sound of ´Little ol´ Norwich´ Such words are music to my ears, Rather have owners who bleed for the club Than some who just have big ideas Although those sort may have big wallets too Their hearts are not always in place, To support and nurture their investment toy If it´s not in the title race Support is vital through both thick and thin At whatever level you play, Those with most cash when things aren´t quite so good Might easily be tempted away They´ll want a return on money put in For theirs is no labour of love, Owners who´re fans for life make the bedrock On which the club can soar above Success means different things to different folk Depending on just how you look, Clubs awash with cash will expect every year A top four spot or else they´ll feel shook I´ll admit, success for NCFC In such a money-bulging industry, Should be measured on a slightly smaller scale Like survival at the end of term spree Whether that suits the majority of fans I really do have no idea, But the fact that we fill the stands week in week out Does suggest so, or they´d not appear And each small triumph we grab on the way Seems sweeter when there´s such a gap, Between those owners who have and have not And players with or without a wage cap It´s not only because I´m now up in years That I´d not want my home club sold, Purely and simply for mercenary reasons I´m afraid that idea leaves me cold. Dear KIO, although this was intended as thought-provoking, it was in no way meant to provoke you, as I know you´re not a fan of ´Little Norwich´ - just me musing.
Well RBF I think you 'speak' for the majority on here. Yes, I'd like to see an injection of cash into our club, but it has to be on the right terms and not as some 'millionaire's plaything.' If that means we remain a 'yoyo club' then so be it and who knows if one day we may become an established PL side albeit in the lower reaches of the PL. Some have compared us to Leicester, Stoke and Southampton; but all three have had massive injections of cash and Filbert Street has undergone 2 name changes that I'm aware of. Also, Reading had a fair injection of cash, but they seem to be just a mid table championship side now. Did someone mention Kew Pee Aargh???? Edit - I read in a comment today that it was during yesterday's corresponding fixture that Delia uttered her rallying cry - "Let's be avin you!!!!" some 11 years ago - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/4307661.stm
It has to be said, if KIO gets his desperate wish, it could end up being disastrous, be careful what you wish for! I'd rather have a yo-yo club to support than no club at all!
Certainly has happened before Dave. I just think that there are just as many potential risks involved with such a procedure as there are, possible benefits. Firstly a new owner with bulging pockets will come with greater demands, greater expectations, the fans too will have greater expectations, all perfectly understandable, and all perfectly fine, IF they are met - but what if they´re not. Then, there really is only one option, spend, spend and spend again, more of those lovely millions, on extortionate wages for overpriced players, and then if success still fails to emerge at a rate acceptable to both fans and owner, the pressure will be put on to change the manager, with compensation to follow, and three times the wages for the new incumbent. Before very long, the club we all thought was rollíng in millions, surprisingly finds itself in debt, owner finds the money he´s been stuffing in, just isn´t coming out again, and decides to cut his losses, and then what? - well your guess is as good as mine, but it doesn´t spell good news to me. Naturally the other scenario is also possible, where everything runs smoothly from day one, but past history from clubs who´ve tried it does tend to suggest the first scenario is just as likely, or possibly more so.
Having rich owners doesn't always end in disaster, there's always the exception that proves the rule. Look at what Leicester have acheived admittedly their wealthy owners haven't really spent mega millions but I would imagine that Raniairi is on a King's ransom. All I want Dave is for us to compete in the top division and with our current owners that ain't never going to happen, if we had any ambition we would be actively searching out a wealthy buyer. I know that's easier said than done but we should at least try IMO. From a personal point of view I would welcome what some have described as a 'souless out of town stadium' as well, at least we'd all be able to get match tickets. Time waits for no man, you can't stand in the way of progress. Delia out
Yes KIO and I think that's what all NCFC fans want. I don't agree re the 'souless out of town stadium' and I wouldn't like it, but if we were to spend a few consecutive years in the PL, it may be the only option, as I don't see any way to extend CR that could be achieved quickly!!!!
ls As Braveheart says KIO, I´m sure that´s all any of us want, but it´s becoming more and more difficult. It´s become a rich man´s sport, a rich man´s plaything, and I m not entirely sure what you expect Delia to do exactly. Yes, she could put the club up for a sale, but do you then imagine there will be a queue of oriental and arab multi-millionaires just waiting to pounce, because I´m not sure I do.The club has to have a drawing power and an attraction to tempt any big money investors, and I just don´t think it has, we´re certainly no Chelsea or Manchester City. Pulling in someone who has only a few more million than Delia, isn´t going to alter anything in today´s climate. With a ground capacity of less than 30,000, despite being able to possibly fill it with half as many again, a football tradition, especially in later years, of yo-yoing between the top two leagues, and a circumspect if not to say cautious approach, to all things financial, is hardly likely to set any juices flowing in Asia or the Middle East.
Maybe we should ask Delia to sponsor Ibrahimovic for £10 million a year as Chelski have supposedly done. What a fecked up world – just think what that money could be spent on! Sometimes I think I’d just love to ignore football completely. I like Gaelic games, but coverage over here is sparse, I’ve tried rugby but can’t get into it. Cricket and golf have their merits if you have insomnia. It’s in my blood so I’ll just have to lump it I guess, despite it now representing everything I hate. As for a soulless out-of-town nissen hut – please God, no!!
In reference to your paragraph number two gandy, the only seasons I´ve bothered to follow the Premier League recently, have been those where we have been involved, otherwise I´ve given it a miss altogether. Money has ruined it for me.
I agree RBF, and I used to watch, and enjoy, English teams competing in Europe. Now I don't even look at the scores.
I have said many times on here that I want the club to be there for my boys don't ever want it to be the plaything of some rich crooks or exploiters of the common man Happy to be lil ol than bust and broke
