Newly promoted Championship side Bristol City have targeted former Leeds striker Matt Smith, according to FLW sources. We need 2 more forwards - we know Big Matt has a great attitude - I would like to see this happen http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/bristol-city-chase-deal-for-ex-leeds-united-striker/
Wouldn't have a problem with Matt returning as he added another dimension to our up front strength which resulted in some extra goals for him and his strike partners.
I'd love him back, and Grigg would be a great addition. With that said, we also need another midfielder to replace Wade, and a solid defender. The more I think about it, the more I think that we need to spend this year.
The jury is out for me. Yes to Grigg and I know Matty Smith got us to Wembley virtually singlehandedly, but if he comes to us, we'll be his fourth or so league club. For a relative youngster that's a lot of clubs. Is he a journeyman ?
I don't care how many clubs he's played for if he scores goals like he did for us again. Was Kevin Philips a 'journeyman player'..?
Thats what they said about Stead, but he was a great signing. It was the rest of the team that let him down
Yes he was and he played for 9 different clubs. Watford, Sunderland, Southampton, Villa, West Brom, Birmingham, Blackpool, Palarse and Leicester. I don't think Smith is in the same league as Kevin Phillips though
Well to be fair to him you can't blame him for the moves he's made. Does well at Oldham and Leeds come knocking! would be a fool not to make that move. Then he is forced out of leeds to Fulham, who at the time were favourites to go back up to the prem, so could see why he moved there. Now he isn't getting the game time he wants and has been successful here. All legitimate moves, would rather these reasons than that of Nile Ranger, Ravel Morrison etc.
Absolutely not, cant blame him at all, but should SC buy someone better, and he still signs for us and becomes a squad player here, will the same situation arise ? Agree with the sentiments on Nile the vile as well !!
We played Smith at a time when we had injuries, he was essentially a target man and we did look a little predictable at times but overall, we got away with it. I am not sure if Smith would bag a lot of goals in the championship, but to be fair, we have to cut out cloth accordingly and I have no doubt that he would fit in pretty quickly as he did have quite a bit of time with us to understand the set up- I like the idea of going for Grigg too, but would they work together?- That's why I don't do SC's job. He is a lot better at it and I will leave it to his judgement
Yes he did - and despite his stature managed most with his feet. He is a bit of a 'Lambert' type player for me - big enough for hoofball but skilful enough for 'decent' play. I'd have him - definitely. We can change tactic without making a substitution
