Most will rightly chat about 1966, but my greatest memories of him, were what he achieved in respect with the Republic of Ireland team.

None less than in Italia 90 ...

    The Movie...

    RIP big man <rose>

My only real memories of the man are that W.C, his love of fishing and the fact that he had a proper NE accent compared to his bro.

Top geezer back in the day, total admiration for the way he responded to Ian Hutchinson biting at his ankles in the 1970 cup final. RIP <rose>

Can't be long until we've lost the whole of that '66 team.

    RIP <rose>

Loved the way he would refer to brother Bobby as "our kid" when speaking about him. Tremendous uncompromising centre-half for both club and country ... and honorary son of Ireland.

    RIP <rose>

One of my earliest football memories is watching that 1970 Leeds v Chelsea Cup Final on B&W telly, and the replay at Old Trafford. When men were men.

Total Legend over here, helped bring Ireland out of the doldrums of the 80's and instill a new confidence in the nation.

RIP Jack and thanks for the memories. <rose>

Good documentary shown earlier this year on RTE sums it all up, worth a watch if you have time. <cheers>

Amazing to think back (1990) then, one of Big Jack's players, Cascarino was three years beforehand only playing for Gillingham! Played 219 times for us and was bought for a set of track suits from Crockenhill.

Bit hazy on the facts, but Jacks mum was related to Jackie Milburn, may have been his sister. The Milburns has 4 pro players, But the Charltons went on to have 2 world cup winners...

Didn't he and Bobby have a fall out at some stage?

RTE have blocked it here bro.

    RIP Big Jackie. <rose>

I might have asked you this before, but where abouts in Ireland are you ? I spent some time a while ago in Clare around Lahinch and Doolin, going over there for the surf.

I'm in County Wicklow mate, just outside a place called Kilmacanoge near Bray Town, with the Wicklow hills as my literal back garden. Plenty of woods and lakes for fannying about. I hit the west coast a couple of times a year with the Bro-in-law when he comes over from France, but we'd be more north bound in Mayo, Keel beach in Achill Island is his favorite place for kite-surfing. Not big into surfing myself, but I still do a bit of canoeing from time to time. <ok>

There’s a point break up near Ballycastle that we used to surf. Stayed a few times in Ballina when I’ve been up that way and I used to love spending a bit of time in Galway, which is a beautiful city.

I used to go over regularly around 15-20 years ago and surf with a bloke called John McCarthy who owns a surf school in Lahinch. Bloke has balls of steel and was one of the surfers who put Aileens on the map (a big wave break near the cliffs of moher)

He did an advert for the bank of Ireland, you might have seen it on the box ?
