http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/11797427._/?ref=mac Interview in Echo which is already appearing in snippets in other new sources. Might as well read the original.
Always necessary to use a sieve when reading interviews with Kreuger. Also you may understand every word in a sentence without necessarily understanding the sentence . So what I got from reading this: 1. Only interviewed RK for manager's job as he was so right for us (as we all knew). 2. Our financial position is more under control than it was under NC. 3. Some of money from summer sales is tied up with wages etc (so not sloshing around). 4. Can never guarantee that a manager won't leave (I would say don't panic, trust RK on this), 5. We are a club that players want to join (in response to question about players leaving). 6. Talking to Clyne. Says we are a team for players who haven't yet achieved their potential (suggests that players shouldn't rush to leave). 7. We are planning years ahead and chose not to panic in January when players were injured. We stick to the plan. 8. The commercial department has been expanded. 9. Ready and planning for Europe (if it happens). 10. Planning is long term and no risks will be taken for short term gains.
That did make me laugh Fran - you've done a splendid job there of actually writing the WHOLE interview minus the Krueger-speak! The concept that Ralph could do anything other than a 'big' interview is indeed moot.
Krueger appearing on BBC South Today tonight and another interview appearing on the BBC website. Funny that this all happens before Lallana and Lovren return, eh?
Wheras with Cortese I often wondered if he were still hooked up to Skynet, I feel a warmth and enthusiasm from Kruger which transcends the management speak. I love the fella. (I was right)
Ha..! I watched Terminator 3 again last night. Yeah, I sense what you do too, JG. I think he was possibly the major player in getting the manifesto out, and they probably sorted out the internal Southampton Way equally. The manifesto [below this post in my signature] reeks of management slogan. The less than best ones appear dire because they are empty of substance other than bull****. And the one we have had us squirming, slightly uncomfortably at first, but now it fits well, because the club are undoubtedly doing what they set out to do in the manifesto. BTW, I believe the been to the abyss and come back stronger sentence refers to July 2009, not the hiccough of pre-season last.
Now thats better, listening to his interview on BBC is better than trying to understand it when written down Good calm and controlled message We March On
The idea of the manifesto being created by a room full of club staff with all represented shows the night and day difference between Cortese and Kruger. Ralph is managing, leading, organising others and creating an environment. Nicola did it all. In a way, it worked out perfectly. Cortese's approach couldn't work at the highest level (high profile, major club playing in Europe), the new model is designed for it.
In certain parts of the States apparently people think Saints are bigger than Man United Think it's important to keep hold of Krueger as there is so much potential for growth over there and he could help with that massively.
I like the fact they seem to continue thinking medium to long term, not short term. That is a good sign.
There are some very remote places over there. Some of those places haven't heard of England, let a lone Southampton or Manchester United
In truth I've only seen it in bits before. Never all the way through. I've always quite liked the Terminator series, just for the tongue-n-cheek nature that Arnie plays it, though I've only seen 1 to 3. I lost count of the number of gags they did with his sunglasses on T3. Incidentally, I kept wondering why I thought the actress who played the character Kate Brewster [Claire Danes] was cute, considering she was not showing her best side, shall we say. Then it dawned on me. She's almost the dead spit of my ex-partner.
Seriously, only The Echo can consistently put typos in the actual headlines of their pieces. Even if they can't afford good quality sub-editors, at least have a few of them go over the actual headlines...
