Just wondering what you guys think of this, having argument on another thread with a QPR fan, with him claiming QPR are bigger than saints, one of his reasons were that qpr got higher gates many years back, and that out away following was very poor, I for one just laughed. I know we're not a 'big club' but surely were bigger than QPR. So was just wondering if he is the only numpty in the world who thinks this, and also what makes a big club these days? Fan base, honours? Recent history?
Considering the English football pyramid has 24 levels and we're in the top one, yeah, we're pretty big on the grand scheme of things.
I ain't really fussed about size of clubs but when QPR fan comes in and says they are bigger than us, I just simply want to know why would he think that? Am I missing something out here?
I wonder if there will be much left of QPR after a relegation and potentially bankrupt once they are in the championship!
I have never considered QPR to be bigger than Saints. We seek to emulate Spurs, Everton and Newcastle in the short term, but QPR aren't even on my radar.
One thing for sure is that Harry will be gone, with a massive pay check, and he will have his exacuse will be, "the club was relegated before I came, I didn't have enough time to work with players"
Let the QPR fan have his moment. I'm more concerned with the potential size of Saints, which is a hell of a lot bigger than that of QPR. In a few years we'll be taking Europe by storm (should it all go to plan) and QPR will be god knows where.
And also he mentioned Southampton would never be a big club due to location of the city, and it's not one of England biggest cities. Also no decent player would want to play down south, got to love a bit of banter
We used to fill the stadium last time we were in PL...no reason that we couldn't fill a bigger one if we keep on playing exciting football. We have a large potential catchment area with no real competition. QPR are in competition with other clubs in London...unless it was your local team why would you pick QPR over the others. Doesn't matter anyway...the proof of the pudding etc.
Interesting one, that. We may be a small city in the grand scheme of things but we have a huge catchment area for kids looking for top-flight football. Who competes for Premiership-quality academy members? No-one, as far as Reading. As for QPR, let's look how big they are after Harry's spent all the money they don't have. Vin
QPR a bigger club than saints? No way. I think we're a 'biggish' club, and if we start to achieve what Corteses (and us) wants us to.......then more people will notice. Like Fran says, I feel Spurs and Everton are clubs we seek to emulate for now. Would love to see the stadium expanded and full every week. That would be something.
