Do any of you guys think we are a big club in league 2 and when we get beat especially at home do you think teams see us as a big scalp as they would perhaps Plymouth or Bradford .
Yeah I think we are a big club we have a big reputation as we have been in the Championship and also that we have spent years in the football league.
We're a very big club for that division without doubt, only club in a whole county (Charlton don't count) How many clubs in league 2 can boast that? The biggest clubs in the division are us, Bristol Rovers, Bradford and Rotherham.
No we aren't seen as a big club. Historically we are a lower two league club and that is how we are seen outside Medway. We may be one of the stronger teams (hopefully) but not big
No I don't think other teams see us as a big club and I certainly don't not even for this league. Average gates are under 6k and only just had us in the top 10 last year, see link, we came in 8th. We have potential, certainly, but we are where we are for a reason. http://www.emfootball.co.uk/attend.html
We are not a big club, just a club that sustains itself at League Two level, with reasonable attendances for the average of the division.
The potential is there. Being Kent's only club attendances should be a lot higher, what is the population of Kent??
The population of Kent is irrelevant, the Sky Sports/Premiershi*e years have gradually erroded league football attendances. With Gillingham we can moan about the price etc but the fact is while people can sit at home on their arse claiming to be a Man U supporter despite having never even been within 100 miles of Old Trafford and see 4 games a month for 20 quid on the sky bill who is going to bother coming to see the Gills? Where I sit in the Medway stand the only regulars/ST holders who are under 18 around us are children of adult fans who they are there with. They come because their parents do and introduced them to it. Other youngsters support City, United, Arsenal, Chelsea etc etc. They sit at home watching it on TV and playing Fifa. How many people ask you on match days when you are on your way home in a Gills shirt how we did? Do you ever tell them if they want to know they should go to bloody matches? I get asked week in week out by the same prat in a Chelsea shirt who seems to hang out on the high street. WE! how WE! did he asks.... Maybe I am bitter, and maybe ticket prices or bringing back terraces would bring fans back but the truth is the Premiership has killed many league clubs. I am not 100% blind to it, the money it has brought in and the fact top clubs compete in Europe is good blah blah but frankly I don't give a toss. Next person who asks me how we did is going to get given the number of the ticket office. /Rant
just going back to the attendance numbers would you rathert be a club that gets a fairly consistent number of supporters or one like brdford who went as low as 2K and as high as 17K, talk about never getting a consistant atmosphere. as to the question we arent a big fish ina small pond but were certainly no where near the bottom of the food chain
