Extract from a Wigan blogger below. Apart from the fact this guy needs to take a breath when he's writing and learn about punctuation, is this a realistic appraisal of where we are? If you remember we were playing a very poor underperforming bottom 3 club (we've already lost to the other two) who are short on confidence as well as skill, how far have we really come? "Cardiff’s total attacking acumen apart from the goal was totally zero for the majority of the game although as Wigan pushed forwards in search of an equaliser, Cardiff made a rare foray into the Wigan penalty area and from a Whittingham cross, Morrison headed unchallenged over the bar Wigan strove for an equaliser right until the bitter end up after four minutes of time added on the referee drew to a close a poor game which Wigan although nowhere near their best will feel that they should have won." OK, it's a start and we'll take 3 points away from home any day thank you very much, but Wigan are a poor side and we were less than convincing on the night. That sort of "heroic" defensive performance set against another 40% possession stat may not be enough to stave off others. The Wolves game on Saturday will tell us far more than last night as to our level in this division. About where we are now would seem about right for the end of the season unless we can take the game to the opposition and impose some sort of control. Beating Wolves would demonstrate a huge step forward.
We won. 2 maybe 3 more and we are safe. I think next season will be a disaster unless there are changes to the set up though.
Well we've got Charlton, Birmingham, Bolton, Millwall and Blackpool amongst our remaining home fixtures. If we can't get those 2 or 3 wins from those alone we don't deserve to be safe.
Sounds like sour grapes from a person who needs to learn to breathe when he writes. Yes they had more possession but on the other main stats as shown on BBC they were no better than us apart from corners won - not surprising with their possession. You're right about Saturday. After the weak show v. Derby this will be a test of our mettle. Interestingly though while Wolves appeared to have a convincing 3 - 0 win v. Fulham, Fulham won the possession game 58 - 42 and Fulham had more shots on target, 16 to 13. Wolves were more clinical in their finishing. However, how we do in the 5 home games you mention Sparks will determine our final position this season. I'm not holding out much hope for us v Bournemouth at home. Tough away days to come at Ipswich, Forest, Leeds and Brentford although Rotherham and Reading may be a little easier.
