Let it go ffs. They should use the money for more worthwhile purposes. There are homeless gonna freeze on our streets this Winter yet the Police still persist with this bollocks. If they are gonna investigate anything it should be the parents...
I think there are worst cases of useless spending out there. Something has happened to her and we should try and find out for her sake.
My take is simply this - I sympathise, even if I'm sceptical over their role, but it's no longer the public's interest and hasn't been for at least 5 years. If it were me, I'd never stop, but there would come a time when I would realise I can't use public resources to do it. The commissioner at Scotland Yard shouldn't even be sanctioning that. They should have - years ago - sat down with the McCann's and said "look, we've done everything we can, here's all the paperwork you're allowed (sign here please), we hope you find what you're looking for but as of xx/yy/zzzz date we can no longer offer you any support." I wonder how many Mexican kids (amongst the countless others suffering in this World) have gone missing in the same period, never to be found and written off as a cartel thing?
Maybe the Police could ask the McCann's some questions to help... https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...adeleine-disappearance-portugal-a7710111.html
Something not right with these two. He is ice cold when he is interviewed. It is a cliche to say it, but i cant help thinking that if this was a couple of chavs from Pelaw the Met investigation would be following a different line of inquiry and the twins would have been taken by social services long ago.
The whole thing has never sat well with me like. They always looked far too composed when interviewed (even in the early days) for me. I'm not saying they're culpable in some way shape or form but something just doesn't seem right with it all. Daztoc has hit the nail on the head above, had it been a couple of no-marks it would all have been ended a long time ago. They've raised enough money through the various campaigns/go fund me thingy's that came about afterwards....how about using some of that money to fund further investigations etc etc? Time to let it lie now methinks.
The sImple fact is.... but for their negligence... their child would be alive and with them today.....
If there are credible leads which could realistically uncover something new and pertinent then I wouldn't have a problem with the funding being extended. My guess, though, would be they must be well and truly into the clutching-at-straws territory by now. And I have to say about some of the comments made about the parents, that the Police aren't daft and they must be satisfied that they aren't suspects. All-in-all, though, I would agree it is probably time to let it go, although, like everyone else who passes comment, I don't know the details like those involved in the case.
In the early days the media coverage was designed to help. IN my personal belief ever since those first couple of months it has been a hinderance. The media basically telling those potentially involved "get your alibis sorted" or "the british cops will be there in a few days to look at you". Surely all this should have been kept under wraps. I remember there was a document released on wikileaks (wished I had kept it) from the chief portuguese cop and was quite an eye opener and clearly laid the blame at the parents whether that is true or not. Personally I don't buy the fact that the father acts so cold to be meaning guilt - if they were innocent and it was me in that situation who knows how I would react - we all react differently. If anything in those early moments it was mostly likely be in a state of shock. All anyone can hope for that no matter what actually happened that she didn't/isn't suffer/ing. As for the police case - this should have all been stopped 7/8 years ago unless a member of public were to come forth with evidence of some description.
To be fair how many of us would refuse to answer any questions while being questioned in a foreign country. Was there a solicitor present? If there was, were they advising not to answer? If there wasn’t then she would a fool to answer. We would need to know the actual circumstances. Saying that cut the funding.
If my child had gone missing I’d be a ****ing mess and answer everything. I’d freely admit if I’d acted negligently, if it helped. These are closed questions but they acted and responded like they were accused, not like they were offering information.
Just because you would act like that doesn't mean to say everyone else would. When my daughter died my wife and I reacted to her death completely differently. My wife was a visible mess and to that I responded by being fairly calm, reassuring and my sadness and grief were put to aside.
