Shrewsbury have started a Betting Competition and fans from other teams are invited to join in. If anyone is interested in taking part please respond on the Shrewsbury thread. Alternatively, anyone preferring our own Betting Competition, please comment below.

Some options for a League 2 Only Competition are provided later in the thread. Invites have been posted to League 2 Clubs with over 10k posts although anyone is welcome to comment/join.

    Gillingham Invite

    Bristol Rovers Invite

    Plymouth Invite

I could do one for just L2 (possibly including any cup matches involving L2 teams) if there were enough support for it.

If we do set one up we could open it up to all L2 teams. I would think of running it along the lines of the Betting Competitions I run on the Horse Racing Forum (ie everyone starts off with a bank of £1,000 to bet with how and when they like during a major meeting, normally 3-5 days). Problem is there are no major meetings in football so it's a case of over what period should the competition(s) be run. Could be weekly, monthly or the whole season. From experience the longer it goes on the more the interest starts to wane. Also blowing the bank could leave only a few competing but the idea of topping up the bank each month may help to overcome that problem. From an administration viewpoint single bets are preferred to multiple bets but depends on popularity.

Not getting much response so far. I'll try some examples to see which, if any, appeal.

    Example 1 - Simplest

Go to this link and scroll to league 2 Fixtures
    Tick the desired result
Use the Snipping tool to copy the relevant part of the screen display (as shown in attachment) and save the file
    Copy the image from computer.
    Job done
    L2Ex1.JPG

For each correctly forecast result you will score points according to the odds shown on the image

PS Clearly Oddschecker have screwed up with the Bristol v Oxford date

Example 2 - Most Complex (Using a betting bank)

Using the same link as Example 1.

Place a bet (up to the amount remaining in your betting bank) on any result. If you want to bet on a correct score click the "all odds" to the right of the desired match and place a bet according to the odds. For these bets you will need to state the odds in your bet.

Example 3 - Somewhere in between

I will post the odds for the League 2 matches and you select one or more matches for your bet, stating the amount to be staked on each selected match result. I will use the odds posted. This is basically Example 2 without the correct scores but with the matches and odds posted by me.

We have until Thursday evening to decide if we want a competition and, if so, what type. And there will need to be at least 10 entrants to make it worthwhile. I'll leave it to you folk to decide.

Suggested Rules for the League 2 Betting Competition. Please post any suggested changes by Wednesday evening.

    1. Each month £1,000 will be allocated to the Betting Account of all competitors
    2. Matches available for betting on will be posted on the Thursday of each week, showing the odds available. These will be League 2 matches only
    3. Single bets only allowed, at the odds posted in the Competition Thread for that week and must be posted at least 5 minutes before the kick-off
    4. The stake may be any amount up to the balance remaining in the Betting Account. If more than one bet is placed on any day there must be enough in the Betting Account to cover both bets. Any bets placed that would cause the account to go overdrawn will be reduced accordingly, without warning
    5. At the end of each month Betting Account Balances will be posted showing the total (if any) carried forward plus the additional £1,000 allocated for the following month
    6. It is not necessary to bet every week but a minimum of £1,000 must be staked every month. Failure to stake the minimum in any month will result in a penalty equal to the shortfall and will be deducted from the Betting Account for the following month (effectively staking the shortfall on a losing bet)
    7. These Rules may be modified at any stage for the purpose of clarity. Any change to the Rules will be notified at the top of the Competition thread then current

    I'll add another Rule

The competition will start on Saturday 18th August 2012 and end immediately after the final League 2 fixture is completed (currently scheduled for Saturday 27th April 2013).
