It seems that Leeds have the best value squad in the Championship, when you take into account how much we have splashed out, and league positioning. http://www.thescratchingshed.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/Transfer-Effectiveness.png
If thats not a reason for Bates to reinforce in the window I dont know what is! Sadly I doubt it will happen & this was the exact reason Bates brought Grayson in, to work on a shoe string. Fair play to Simon Grayson though, cant argue with the head start plenty have had on him when it comes to splashing the cash
Its a very poor article is that one. All the figures are taken from a site that values Obrien currently at £1.8m. I mean what the **** In affect a club could spend £100m on wages but no transfers fees and would look better than a club who spends £10m but spent £1m on a fee. Am has antil bates has they come but that article is a blantant bullshit anti bates which twist the figures
What are you on about? That site states what it thinks the players are worth, what the original article stated was that we have the most points for money spent on the squad (which is the cheapest in the league). This is the original article: http://www.thescratchingshed.com/2011/11/simon-grayson-a-bargain-at-56320-per-point/ It has nothing to do with the perceived value of the players, only how much they cost and how many points we've gained.
All the figures are from the transfermarkt website which is unreliable. I agree with Liw; it's a lazily-written article. The gist of it is probably true, but you can't trust dodgy stats.
Why would he lie about spending 350k on Ross McCormack etc? Obviously someone within the club leaks the sums to the press since they always know the value of our 'undisclosed' fees, but I don't really see them doctoring the numbers.
Simon You've got what i meant all wrong, i never said obrien estimate value was included. Read with your brain, not what you want to read My point was that the site they got the figures from values Obrien at currently £1.8m. So how can your trust the figures they are stating anywhere. The figuress for transfers are all made up anyway, we dont announce fees And doesnt signing on fees/ wages go towards a squads cost
We quite clearly announce them to the press, like every other club/the FA do. The official site says they're undisclosed, but the national press usually get informed anyway. Yes. But how can you compare those when they're never reported in the press?
Am not sure your right we leak them to the press, whats point of having undisclosed if you tell the papers who then report That site says barnsley paid £684000 for a craig Davies. He actually went for free. A joke site and TSS has been very poor with the article
I agree the transfermarkt site's unreliable, but I doubt the press are pulling figures out of thin air. You've got to remember that Bates announces a fair few of the transfer fees on his Wednesday Rant and it's in the club's interest to portray themselves as low spenders so they'll brag to the press how they got leading lights like Alex Bruce for a mere 200k. If the press report a transfer fee wrongly, a club can talk to the Press Complaints Commission and have it removed. As it stands, I've never seen that happen.
However reliable the figures are, I don't think it can really be argued that we probably have the cheapest squad in the league regarding transfer fees. From our current squad I can think of: Clayton: ~£300k McCormack: ~£400k Bruce: ~£200k Becchio: ~£300k Lonergan: ~£150k Bromby: ~£250k Snodgrass: ~£110k
