Now the season is finished we need some silly threads to keep us interested and here is the first. Not counting Vicarage Road which football stadium is the best you have visited and why? I have enjoyed visiting the Olympiastadion in München and the Amsterdam ArenA. The Olympiastadion and ArenA are fantastic architectural designs. I must visit Wembley.
The Emirates and the new Wembley for big stadiums. Then there is the host of new concrete bowls in retail parks:- Donny, Stoke, Franchise FC, Reading - but they are all pretty soulless. Brighton is a little different in that there is no Retail Park, in fact nothing. So my favourite Retail Park type ground in Scunny. Favourite old school type ground would have to be something like Posh of Aldershot, although no beer is to be had at either!
Loved the old St. Mary's with it's funny old stand on an angle. Aldershot was quaint, and the old Stamford Bridge when it was a huge open bowl of a ground.
Best stadium I've visted is the Camp Nou but the atmosphere wasn't best. For atmosphere it has to be the Estadio Azteca, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estadio_Azteca The worst ever stadium I have been to is St Albans ! There is a tree in one of the stands !
Estádio CÃcero Pompeu de Toledo or Morumbi in São Paulo is São Paulo FC's home ground, I saw São Paulo x Newell's Old Boys in the final of th Copa Libertadores in 1992. 105,000 spectators, incredible. The Emirates is fantastic, Brasil x Argentina there one Saturday with 66,000, have Arsenal managed that many in their stadium and the new Wembley is quite something too.
New wembley is good too. I saw England 3.1 Mexico there in a friendly. I'd happily cut my left hand off with a spoon to go to the world cup in Brazil and see the final !! Would anyone pay for me to go if I do it? I'd love to go to that stadium Bragatino....
Never would have guessed in a million guesses where the world's biggest capacity stadium was..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_association_football_stadiums_by_capacity
i don't like the big soulless stadiums, so places like Posh do it for me...you can keep your Reading, Southampton, Coventry etc etc...they're all the same! i was at that game Mexican And yes, i like new Wembley, not a poor view in the place, but i loved old Wembley
Well i have not been to many, but Posh was a run down dump, ARSEnal was a library, Stamford bridge was ok. Wembley was nice, but there was no atmosphere, it seems too big. I think the best would have to be Cardiff Millennium stadium by process of elimination.
The Sydney Olympic Stadium is well up there for me - a pretty smart stadium, with the lower tier on the sides retractable, depending on the sport being played! I have been to Camp Nou, but that was just a tour so doesn;t count - but would love to go to the Bernabau! Old Wembley really wasn't a nice stadium, but happy memories. Millennium Stadium is amazing. I also really liked Loftus Versfield in Pretoria, when on a British Lions tour, but as we won in Ellsi Park in Jo'Burg, will have to say there too!
I'm with you there H, I think Posh away was one of my favourite games of the season. Haven't been to a match at the new Wembley, but I've done the tour. Prefer old Wembley I'm afraid.
Hate to say it but Anfield generated the most atmosphere I have experienced - saw them play Spurs and Barcelona there and both times it was fantastic - new Wembley may be large but it is a lovely stadium
I was at Vicarage Road in 1969 when they played Man Utd in the Cup and I think the Crowd was over 30,000 all standing. It was exciting but also a little crampt. The best Football stadium I have visited is the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, but I think the best stadium I have ever been to is Twickenham. It seems to have hundreds of bars never more than a 100yards away, plenty of staff and ice cold Guinness at reasonable prices.
How long ago were you at SAC? I don't think that the tree is there any more. If I'm right, then it was either due it dying as it couldn't get what it needed from the soil due to the development when they got promoted to the Conference National or they had to remove it so they could do the aforementioned development. My favourite ground is St James Park - although when I went there it was while there was still terracing. That might change to when I'm in Budapest in August. If it works out right, I may get to see a match at either the home of Ferencvaros (the hotel I'm in is literally round the corner from the ground) or Honved.
