We seem to have a big dispute regarding stadiums. Some saying the bowls are soulless etc. Out of the recently built stadiums built within the past 15 years what one's have you enjoyed. I have to say the Millenium to me is my all time favourite, simply because I have been there many times for rugby internationals. It is basically a bowl but when it's in full swing it's a intimidating place for opposing teams and fans. Based on the Millenium design it would keep some happy with the raking old Arms Park End. I was impressed with the Emirates only saw a concert there, but it shows atmosphere is in there if everyone sings in unison. Over to you lot.
only the millenium stadium is one i have liked i find all new stadiums the same, boring and identical old stadiums with character is what i am most looking forward to this coming season
None spring instantly to mind. It's a procession of stadiums from the same flat pack manufacturers. Some are bigger, some are a little less dull. Design appears stuck in a cold and clinical malaise. The stadium that stands out has yet to built. I hope to see one day a stadium that captures the atmosphere and charm of the old, and marries that with new standards.
I would guess ANY stadium of any shape or size is just fine when its packed to the roof with fanatic support and loud singing. However, put 8k into a 30k bowl.....Coventry on boxing day 2 years back anyone?.......and its just plain crapland. Never been there, but Swansea's place seems just about right on tv.......not too big so as to leave acres of empty seats yet always appears full and noisy.
That's what I'm saying Jeffery, pack a stadium and it's always going to be loud. The problem is these days are they are packed without fans who want to create an atmosphere. The Millenium when used for Wales football was ****e, so they moved it to Cardiffs ground totally different to when Cardiff play. Welsh rugby in the Millenium does what it is designed to do, like it did to the English this year, talking to fans of the English who went said that they knew they lost once the players came out, the stadium put the fear into them.
Im with Tiger, I love the new Wembley stadium, Its the god of stadiums and you feel like you're at home when you're there. I don't know when Bolton's ground was built but again I loved that ground. The seats we spacious the view was great and it was an amazing ground overall. Another winner was Brighton's ground. I would copy that if we want a new ground. Everything about it was just brilliant.
I went to Reading just after it opened and I still quite like it today although it has a lot of echo in the acoustics. Compared to their old one at Elm Park it's a king.
Build a good un a tight feel and it will be likely to loud. Stadium after stadium has slayed previous noisy supports like Cardiff Coventry and Derby. Used to run coaches to Wembley that went septic when the new one was built as the old skill turned their back on it. Nice views but unless you have huge numbers who want to make a noise it is poor. It is still poor with big numbers smaller grounds.wembley makes supports quiet because they are lost in it v years back when lads used to head up to scoreboards tiers which guaranteed a good atmosphere. Now it's just a big cavern. Crap design damages vocal supports.
Hillsborough, Brammall lane should count. Apart from Reafding and Wigan who had no fans it's hard to think of a a new stadium that has seen support keep that old skool feel. It isn't just the bowls e.g Millwall, but the bowls seem the worst.
The Millenium Stadium is a great place to watch sport (going to the Speedway Grand Prix on Saturday) Not been to the Emirates, but Arsenal have shown everyone how to do the "corporate" bit - I think they get £3m per game!!! I've been impressed with the stadium at Brighton and how they have used it PS - Old School - I love the Hawthorns
If we were to redesign AG I would like them to base it on the Hawthorns, they got it right. Bramal Lane is an old but tidy stadium redeveloped as well. They have that song that starts on the broadcast then the crowd take over, that impressed me how load they take it over. But is that down to their passion there? As I said Cardiff stadium is like Lego land, but when Wales played the Svots it was on fire with sound and passion.
I think of all the stadia I have been to it's the Millenium that sticks in my mind not having been to Brightons new stadium yet or the Emirates. Went to the Withdean and Highbury several times but the one time that I can't forget, The Cheese getting up to head the ball home how we didn't win by more was beyond me I think we hit the woodwork twice.
Stadium was fine, could do with filling the corners in. The outside was a ****ing mare though, confusing transport, to much traffic and PC plod and tod on duty
Good on you ! I've been following speedway for nearly 40 years and saw Ryan Sullivan win the British GP in Cardiff a few years ago. Brilliant atmosphere for speedway, football and concerts
The Brittania stadium can certainly drum up a good atmosphere. they made a massive noise there when we lost to them in the play off season.

Eh ... I remember it being cold and windy and that was it. Time before it was poor. The Victoria was a fine wine compared to that.
