While posting on my thread asking who would I choose between Channon or Le Tiss I thought who was the best I've seen play at either the Dell or St Mary's ,Bobby Charlton for sure as the best English player but I was fortunate enough to see George Best score a Hatrick at the Dell in a 5-2 defeat of Saints and when I think of who was playing that day it amazes me to think it was like watchiing 21 kids playing and Best he was magical that day and got a standing ovation from saints fans, can anyone think of their top player?

I was there for Best's hat-trick and I still think he's the greatest (non-Saints, obviously) player I've ever seen. I hope we get into the Champions League and play Barcelona while Messi is still playing so you and I can compare him to Georgie boy, Channelsaint!

The trouble is that everyone understandably goes for goal scorers...I would choose Tiss as a striking midfielder, but I would love to have Niemi and Killer in our present squad.

Sorry..misread the OP. We have seen a lot of good players playing against us, but I am so Saint-centred that I regard skill in the opposition as a bad thing. Hope that doesn't make me a bad person.

The best player I have seen at the Dell was probably Le Tiss as I can't remember a lot of non-Saints players that stood out as I was too young. Best player at St Mary's was probably Thierry Henry.

He may not be on the same level throughout his career (so far) as the likes of Best, but in terms of performances only at the Dell/SMS, I seem to remember a young Danny Welbeck absolutely tearing us apart in the FA Cup, back when we were in the Championship under Poortevliet.

George Best could have beaten a team of Thierry Henrys blindfolded on one leg.

Don't talk nonsense, Bestie could have pissed all over Henry playing with a pint in his hand.

Only time I saw him at The Dell he got red card.If my memory serves it was the first day that domestic football used them. We won 4-1 with Rodney Marsh scoring their one.

Best player I saw there was,

    Kenny Dalglish,

I only ever saw George Best play for about twenty minutes. He was part of a Fulham side that also included Rodny Marsh and Bobby Moore and my Dad spent the whole of the week telling me that he was going to take me to the Dell to watch the greatest footballer of them all. I think I must have been about 9 at the time. Anyway, Best got a red card early in the first half so I never got to see him play the full 90!

I think that there were several players that impressed me when I was small. Keegan was easily the best player I have seen in a Saints shirt but I would also have to add that as a youngster I was often impressed because I had seen a player in an edition of "Shoot!" magazine beforehand. For this reason, players like Ian Wallace of Coventry stick in my mind as I had never seen Saints loose prior to this game. The likes of Batson, Regis & Cunningham impressed. For recently, I felt that John Barnes was fabulous when he pkayed for Liverpool ahainst us in the mid-80's but for me it was Paul Gascoigne's performance for Spurs where he scored a blinder that sticks out more than anything.

I would also have to add that one of the very best teams I've seen was the Div One champions teamthat Everton put out in the mid 80's unde Howard Kendall.

Gullit was devastating for Chelsea against us at The Dell.

Gullitt is a good shout but George Best, George Best, George Best, for those of you that never had the privilege of seeing him, he was Messi and more.

Have to agree with Ian Wright. Murdered us year after year and scared hell out of me any time he got the ball.

But great shout re Gullit, completely forgot about him, he was awesome.
