Best player or Best player of the season?

  1. I know there's alot of people that think Tiote is our alround best player, but has he really been the most vital?

I think that Barton and Nolan are the players that have been the most vital in securing our survival and hold things together, but Cheik Tiote is the player that takes our midfield and makes it a class higher, and then when Ben Arfa gets here he'll also improve the quality.

Ben Arfa and Tiote are probably our most technical players, however i think Barton and Nolan are the players that have been the most vital this season. Nolan's goals and leadership, and Barton's vision and deliveries and also his influences on the pitch, have been the key reason why we have stayed up.

Just look at our record without these two players, especially Barton. Complete ****e.

So yeah, i'd say Tiote's play is easier on the eye, but what Barton and Nolan have done this season has been more vital to our survival and success.

    Anyone else agree?

In summary - Barton and Nolan are our backbone, Ben Arfa and Tiote will join the team and raise it a level higher.

In a way you could compare it to Hughton and Pardew. Hughton was the reason we regained our dignity and he helped restore our pride and get us back up to the premier league. However, i think Pardew is the manager to take the club beyond just survival and up into the top 10. I know Hughton didn't deserve to be sacked, but i personally think Pardew's experience shows, and he's technically a better manager. I think they're both great men, but Pardew's experience has shown in our tactics. So over the course of 2/3 years Hughton has been the most vital to the clubs future, but Pardew will take us and raise us higher.

I know that was a digression from the point, but i believe is a good comparison.

Has to be Coloccini for me.

Most consistent and has been an absolute rock in defense for us this season.

Just brilliant , love the guy to bits.

  3. You're entitled to your opinion, and i agree he's been our top 5 most vital players, but he has had his moments. That red card was a disgrace and he's let in a few players and been muscled off to easily.

But agree, he's been great for us. Legendary. No one on this team has been 100% consistant though, and i think Barton and Nolan have been our driving force.

  5. Totally agree but Barton has also created so much for us with his creativity.

Goals = Points yes, but Results mean success, and we haven't won a game without Barton <ok>

Well obviously he's had one or two bad games but haven't they all? Barton has had a few proper shockers (Spurs , Liverpool , Stoke , Villa away) , Tiote has been immense but has picked up a few too many needless yellow cards and Nolan has been static in far too many games this season. Coloccini also has a few things he should work on (the reasons you correctly stated above).

All in all it's been a brilliant season and for me Coloccini has been our best player.

Closely followed by Nolan , Barton , Tiote and Enrique. <ok>

  7. Yep agree Colo's been class. And hopefully Taylor will continue these level of performances, an be not only a strong defender but a big goal threat. He's only started a handful of games and whenever he's started, (apart from his **** game at villa), he's been great.

He could have had 5 goals in 5 starts.

He almost scored 1st minute vs Chelsea at home, forced Cech into a save. He hit the bar vs West Brom AND Wigan...

He doesn't make too many mistakes once he's in a decent spell of games, but he's not that great when coming on in the one random game or as a sub or at RB <grr>

I still think we need another CB, but i'll be happy with an in form Taylor and Colo at the back. They're both great and you can't see much difference in quality between them when Taylor is playing well. <ok>

If Taylor keeps scoring we may have to consider giving him the number 9 shirt!!

Nolan has been our most influential player this season, as people have said Colo & Barton have had a few bad games (lest we forget, Barton was sent off at the start of the season for punching someone). When Nolan hasn't played we've lacked a leader as well as his goals. Think people are also downplaying Enrique's performances this season because there's a chance he's leaving, he's been quality this season one of if not the best and most consistant LB in the league this year. Tiote's brought something to the team we've lacked for a few years a quality DM although he needs to improve his discipline, nigh on 15 yellows is too high.

    1. Nolan 2. Enrique 3. Tiote 4. Colo 5. Barton

Colo's got to be up there. Without him we'd have had a CB pairing of Willo & Saylor, which would have been awful <yikes>
