On the radio this morning they were discussing the best ever premier league match...and the Liverpool v Newcastle match from 1996 was mentioned. So it got me wondering which is the best spurs match according to not606ers. If you want others added let me know
Personally? I'd probably go for the 3-2 at the Emirates, because of how the game went. Absolutely battering Wigan was great, but there was no real drama to it. For a neutral, possibly something like the 6-4 against Reading? 1-0, 1-2, 2-2, 2-3, 3-3, 3-4, 6-4. Mental.
Got to go for the 3-2 at the Emirates. I was a guest of a Gooner Season Ticket holder for the day, tanked up on free champagne, feasted on a 3 course meal and wine and afterwards managed to have my picture taken with the Arse dinosaur mascot. He got most offended when I pointed out that he might be a Dino - sore arse, cos he'd just been ****ed by the Spurs! Strangely, I haven't been invited back......... Mind you, was not so positive at halftime!!
Don't know how you could look past this. Not just because of who it was against, nor because of Wenger's face at the end, but because it really did represent the dawn of a new era of hope after we'd slumped atrociously under Ramos. I still see this game as the turning point for Spurs in our recent history as we haven't really looked back since.
My favourite match of recent times was the 5-1 League Cup win. Wenger's face was priceless, it felt like walking on air or snorting some top quality cocaine or riding on a magic carpet when leaving WHL. The Wigan 9-1 is the most memorable because I was working on a mine in Eritrea, there was one television in a dark room with about 80 Eritreans in. They'd been working all day in 50 degree centigrade heat and didn't own a bar of soap between them, you can imagine one had to be quite brave to venture in. It was about as crowded as a Nairobi Matutu. Most Eritreans are Gooner fans because their President has declared his allegiance and it is not advisable to go against the President in Eritrea, so they were getting more and more pissed off as the score mounted, there was only one person in the room singing. At the end to celebrate I bought all of them a beer which, became a tradition and meant that a whole bunch off gooner fans used to cheer for Tottenham because they knew that they would all get a free beer if Tottenham won. Three actually changed allegiance to Tottenham and were dully awarded with crisp, brand new Spurs shirts at great cost to myself. Fortunately, due to black market exchange rates, the beers only cost about 17p each.
Sorry RCL I can't even vote mate, all of those games you listed were just sheer class to watch and to pick a winner is impossible for me, the 3-2 at the Emirates was an incredible feeling but smashing Wigan 9-1 with Defoe scoring 5 is something you'll likely never see again while the 6-4 against Reading was just filled with entertainment. We've really been in some great games to watch over the years, I've been fortunate to have been to most of the games you've mentioned, with only the two away games at the Emirates being the ones I had to watch from home or the pub. There are loads that can be still added to that list but I'm sure most of us can go on for days, most notably for me though would be three games at Upton park, the 4-3 Stalteri winner, the 3-2 Bale winner and the 1-0 Dier winner all had last minute winners that forced the Spurs fans to erupt into ecstasy. Looking at best non-Premier League games, then the 5-1 vs Arsenal and the 2-1 win in the final against Chelsea will always live long in the memory, as would the 3-1 vs Inter Milan.
Not seen the 4-4 against Chelsea mentioned, with Keane scoring a scorcher. IIRC, didn't Berbatov have a chance to make it 5-4?
