Having, along with everyone else been a little underwhelmed with England's showing at another tournament. It struck me that along with no current England players currently playing abroad, how many "Top" players from the top four teams at the Euro's play in the Premier League? Balotelli (1 from the Italy starting 11), Torres, Mata (2 from the Spain squad but neither 1starting 11), Mertsaker (1 from the Germany squad but not a starter), Meireles (Portugal starter). Basicallly the best Germans play for the top three German sides and play Champions League as a given, the best Italians stay in Italy and the best Spaniards stay in La Liga with Barca and Madrid. Yes our league has the money and some fantastic players, but which England players could genuinely be described as super stars for their clubs? Rooney 5 games a season? Gerrard in big matches? Lampard?

Also if our "best English players" are so good, why aren't Real Madrid, Barca, Bayern and the like knocking doors down to sign them?? Oh wait.... becuase they're not that good

We haven't had a truly world class player since Beckham, and he had no ****ing pace. Rooney is comical, not a top class international.

Rooney cant play at international level but is a very good player

Joe Hart, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker, Jack Colback, Jack Rodwell, Andros Townsend, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Welbeck, Sturridge and Carrol have the potenial imo

Joe Hart/Sturridge/Welbeck are practically already there imo but the rest have potential to be world class imo

It depends how you define best...

Most entertaining? has to be the Premier league

Most competative? I would say Bundesliga or even make a case for Ligue 1

Best Quality? Spain maybe? Outside the top two its not that great, but then again the likes of paul McShane have never graced La Liga

the premier league is the best league in terms of excitement and action, its very end to end and action packed but the quality of the football is actually very low at times and the defending in particular is comical. for the lever of all the teams the Bundesliga is the best team in the world, champions change regularly, all the teams play good football on the deck, never see keepers punt the ball from goal kciks, always passed out, lovely football to watch but not as 'exciting' or action packed as the premier league, thats the difference imo

You missed out David Silva mate, who is in my opinion the finest player in the Premier League at the moment.

However I think the mid-table Spanish sides are far superior in terms of technical ability than some of the mid-table Premiership teams. The likes of Getafe and Bilbao would wipe the floor with West Brom, Norwich, and (it pains me to say it) us. The Premier League may be more exciting but that's largely because of the often inept defending as opposed to higher quality football.

The PL is the best league in the world in terms of entertainment value and excitement. That's why it's so widely watched - or at least that's my opinion.

Unfortunately this style doesn't translate to either european or international football all that well. The link could be made to the number of foreigners in our league - and that's a fair point IMHO but there's more to it than that. If the national team doesn't learn to adapt and change style then it won't matter how many foreigners, or rather not, are in our league the national team will continue to under achieve.

Personally I prefer our football to watch and am not that bothered about the England team, but I suppose we do need to change somewhat and move with the times !

I though Hart and the back four were excellent in the Euros. Given that the midfield were pretty ****e and gave them little or no cover, they held up very well and certainly better than Germany's against Italy. We just can't seem to translate the pace of the Prem to the international game and some of our "stars" have shown themselves to be very ordinary at top level. Rooney in particular, given his massive reputation.
