Lee Bradbury says that Charlton Athletic are the best team in the League, are we?

Who is the best footballing team in League 1?

    <cheers>

The results in no way are likely to be biased...no way at all.

Then I have to go for Shef Wed.

Their grace, one touch passing and on the ground style is something any club can aspire to. Even MK dons, the Barcelona of league 1.

I don't doubt that we are All Hell, and the table doesn't lie. However, when teams get around to closing us down and playing north west clog league footie we struggle. With the officials at this level believing that Norman Hunter was a skilled and gentlemanly football king on a par with Pele we will always struggle to play in this league. That we look to be getting out of it shows how much better than the norm we have been this season and whythis team can progress.
Or is this just the skill I watched last Saturday speaking through my hat?

Best footballing team would be between us, Sheff Utd and then perhaps Exeter.

    The best team is...... us.

I have wondered recently about our 'legacy' if we are champions.

Last season everyone who saw Brighton was blown away (rolled us over 4 nil at home).

I would assume that with our record breaking away form we must perceived similarly?

    Umm..?...:emoticon-0138-think

Perhaps Ryan had a point when he said the result may be biased?

Towards Wednesday? What are the thoughts about Jones? I think it will be a culture shock to some of their players who are used to just hoofing it. He will need to invest in some players who are capable of playing on the ground (similar to CP last season).

So are you saying that Wednesday won't even make the play-offs then Mary?

Big call by Mandick if that is the case <yikes>

Must admit, sorry to be the odd one out here again, but i voted for Sheff U ! - they were much better than us when we played them - yet , we took 6 points off them !
ALso, we havnt been re-writing the football coaching manuals in recent games have we? (ever since beginning of year) - and yet we are unbeaten in 2012 !

And we are 12 points clear of 2nd - all a bit of a paradox really. !

However, the question was 'Best footballing team in League 1' - not, 'the Best Team in Collecting Points'.
For me, Sheff U were a much better footballing team than us.

I thought Franchise were good after they went down to 10 men (with 11 they were cloggers), they played us off the park in the second half :(

I think they'll get there AH, but I think they would fair better in the play offs with Megson (and his team). It's a very good appointment though, but MM's statement about him having to deliver this season might be difficult unless he can get a few bodies in before the loan deadline.

We are clearly the best team in the league - just check out the Table!! When we are playing well, we are great to watch. However the question was about the best footballing side and for me that has been MKDons (when they are not being cloggers) who have ripped us to bits in both games this year. The fact that they have one point out of six proves that the best footballing sides do not always win.

I think I recognise an inherent dichotomy in the logic.

I agree that MK Dons have the ability to be a good footballing side if they stop being cloggers, because they are behaving like cloggers they are not a good footballing side! This season we have consistently not been playing clog ball and have been the best footballing side. There may be other teams in the league who have the potential to be as good a footballing side as we are, but they have been let down by their clogging. There are also teams in the league that don't clog and try to play football, they have been let down by their football.

The table doesn't lie. Since good football will overcome both clogging and lower quality football.

Football is not just playing pretty passing. If it were, then MK Dons would indeed be up the top, maybe even above us.

Football is also about stout defence, and that is where we are MILES better than anyone else this season.

    The table doesn't lie.

Err, I think I know what you mean! But I rest my case. I did say that we are clearly the best team in the League. There is no doubt about that. But the fact is, we have played poorly for quite a lot of the last few months but have been very adept at collecting points regardless. We have not been the best footballing side. We have the potential to be so - vis the second half against Stevenage, but we have not played consistently good football. We have played consistently effective football. The two things are different.

I will agree we have played poorly over thelast couple of months but as you say we have still managed to collect the points. We have not played clogball to get these but we have played football (if not always consistently) therefore as we have been winning against teams like the Franchise, the Wendies the Blunts and the Udders. Why then are we not the best footballing side. Even Barcelona, Man U Arsenal and Real Madrid have to play effective football as well as attractive one touch football depending on the oppponent and how they are set up. That is what makes a good footballing side.

Curbs teams always played effective football and that is what kept us up. This season as well as playing effective football I have seen some elements of skill that I certainly didn't see last season. The best football is a rounded balance of skill and effectiveness and to get where we have got to so far this season I believe that we have it, certainly with the best back four and striking pairing in the league.

Surely the most effective football is the best football?

At the end of the day, the team that wins the league is the best...and they do so by being effective,
