Morning chaps! (are there any ladies on here?) I thought I would start a thread where we all discuss the greatest goals FFC have ever scored, they can be from this season or in general if you like, we're accepting tricks, rockets, curlers, headers, volleys, just about anything! See if we can't roll the years back with some beauties and reminisce over some quality strikes. I'll get the ball rolling. I'm a neutral but Clint Dempsey's goal against Juventus is one of my favorite goals of all time. Bit bias as I'm American, but that goal was just pure class.
I knew the Harley one would be there once I read the headline. It really was brilliant. The Konchesky strike vs. West Ham a few years back was a great strike too. Reminded me a bit of the Harley effort. The Dempsey goal was great too, one of those goals we will never forget.
I thought about the Konchesky one too as they were from a similar position on the pitch, both left backs too, but decided Harley's was better as he hit it straight on the half volley whereas Konch had a lot of time and space to pick his spot. Great goal though. Here's another to whet the appetites.
for me its got to be the Alan Mullery goal against Leicester in the 1974 Cup, http://youtu.be/0vrh5YJCNlY
That Mullery goal was sublime. I also love the Bouba Diop goal in the last minute against United. I remember jumping around the living room after he scored. The bend on the ball was brilliant.
I was going to post the Papa goal as everyone else had posted all the ones I could think of. Oh well....
I liked that Konchesky goal ... I've been waiting for one like that from Riise, who used to smash those in regularly for Liverpool. and This year, the best two goals that I remember came from Ruiz, both delicate little chips. I still think Dempsey's goal against Juve was intended as a pass.
The goal that I always remember - despite having never seen any video of it - is one Darren Freeman scored in the first minute of a cup tie in Micky Adams' abortive season under Al Fayed. The ball came to him on the corner of the Putney end penalty box at a funny height, and he whipped in a first-time volley that flew in. I had a friend with me that day, a Chesterfield fan, whose jaw almost landed on the floor. I told him that we saw goals like that at Fulham all the time. I'd love to see that one again, but it wasn't even included on the season highlights video. I can't remember whether it was a league cup match or an Autoglass Trophy game. I seem to recall Dirk Lehmann scoring a brilliant goal in the league cup the same season that I was disappointed to see omitted from the video too. Being less esoteric, I still maintain that if Messi had scored Simon Davies' semi-final equaliser against Hamburg, the tv pundits would still be drooling over it and citing it as proof that he was the best player in the world. Not that I'm saying Davies is as good as Messi... If anyone knows how to embed the video for that one, this techno-limited old 'un would be very grateful!
Number four for you Capitano. EDIT: You can tell the uploader loves Rooney - what's so great about that Rooney goal?!
Murphy v Porstmouth ... if only because my pacemaker nearly gave up .. http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhuKIywEAl4
God bless you, Bidley, you've made an old man very happy. Oh dear, that sounds worryingly like that dodgy thread you and Bandit had about fancying Fulham players.
I forgot just how good that davies goal was, possibly one of the most underrated premier league players in recent years.
I can't pick just one best goal, but one goal I remember is Geoff Horsfields against Tottenham in the League cup I was standing in the enclosure and it's one of those moments when I went absolutely bonkers when the goal went in. The comments by Morgan and Coleman are brilliant.
Who would you say has the most attractive team? I had too forgotten Davies's goal against Atletico, it truly was a goal that represented the occasion.
Dear oh dear Bandit, people will talk! (I know Captain would probably go for Arsenal) And I think we can all be forgiven for forgetting everything from that game...
