good evening peeps , as a continuation from my kubica / raikkonen thread that in fairness i never thought many would agree with me i thought i would gauge peoples opinions on the best driver pairing they have ever seen , in fairness it is pointless naming a pairing if you never saw those drivers race or were to young to realise what you were actually watching , i would think the criteria for both drivers would be driving abilty ,set up ability , race pace , qualifying speed , tactical intelligence , technical feedback , tyre wear sympathy , and so on - i can only go back as far as the early 80s , but the driver pairing for me that towers above all others that have come after is prost and senna at mclaren and i can honestly say i dont believe any pairing has come remotely close to these two since and probally never will , , here was a pairing of two all time greats with absolute supreme abilty and unmatched intelligence , not only were they head and shoulders above anybody else during there era in every area of motor racing but they have left a legacy that very few drivers will ever match - would be interested to know other peoples thoughts on the pairing that have struck a cord with them for whatever reason --
Button/Hamilton at the current mo. Maybe the not the best individual drivers in F1 but the best driver pairing for 2012. All time. Prost/Senna.
I go back to very late 90's For pure on track results Alonso and Hamilton were really good. Hakkinen and Coulthard were also good around 98 - 01
From my own memory, Hakkinen and Coulthard has to be up there, but from the past Prost + Senna must be up there, and maybe Jim Clark + Graham Hill?
On a pure results basis it has to be Senna/Prost, or if you want to go back a really long way, Fangio & Moss! Not sure how much of a debate there is to be had on this one!
I thought Clark and Hill but they only had one season together and it didn't go that well. Prost and Senna cleaned absolutely everything up. People use it as a reason for not putting two top drivers together, but they blitzed the field, obviously they had arguably the greatest cars of all time but still.
potentially hamilton and alonso could of been a wonderful pairing for mclaren but for various reasons they both dropped the ball during 07 probally not helped by mclaren cheating , i had alot of time for mika hakk , very understated driver in motor racing history --- not so much DC --
The Obvious ones are Clark+Hill, and Senna+Prost. Driving 'Gods' who seemed to get the best out of each other (driving wise), despite sometimes it all falling apart. These days its Button and Hamilton but unless they can step it up a little bit they're still a bit off what Senna and Prost were doing.
From a romantic perspective, I'd like to nominate Jim Clark and Graham Hill, who were true friends in spite of not being team mates as long as one might have hoped. Prost and Senna are an obvious choice. So are Fangio and Moss. And I say this in all sincerity: there is potential in the Hamilton Button pairing too!
I guess it depends on whether you consider the drivers individually, or whilst they were together? Hakkinen and Senna were briefly team-mates at Mclaren, as were Schumacher and Piquet at Benetton.
?? Driver clones? Are you saying this because of nationality? There is a huge difference between them. Although they were both very quick, the only real common ground is nationality. Hakkinen's work-ethic was never in doubt.
Would be Senna/Prost for me. Can't think of a stronger pairing of two drivers in their prime in the years that I've watched... Even though a very volatile match up.
JB and Lewis without a doubt, competitive on the track but a great relationship off the track, you only have to watch JB's speech at Autosports 2011 too see the respect.
Vettel and webber? I mean, the pairing have the best team stats together: 2009: 2nd 153.5pts 2010: 1st 498pts 2011: 1st 650pts
alonso and massa are a good pareing - this meens alonso always wins like schumacher and barrichello one has to be underdog to master of the racing
