I have heard a few people criticising Best recently which to be honest I think has been fairly harsh. Apart from the offsides which in some occasions are quiet close calls he does offer a lot to the team he's strong and quick and is a handful for defenders.

Its not helped that he picked up an injury at the start of the season after which has meant he hasn’t really picked up the form of the start of the season and the end of last. but he still has put in a shift when he has played.

Anyway now that Ba is away at the ACoN I believe that Best can get the goals that we need until Ba is back.

He proved when Carroll went last season that he could be the main striker and got the goals. He also did it early in the season when Ba was fasting.

Even if he doesn’t get the goals he could be the perfect striker for Ben Arfa to play off as he can draw defenders away leaving space for Ben Arfa

Anyway time for Best to do it again and if he starts i think he will get a brace tomorrow.

He works harder than Shola and works well with the team. I don't like the criticism he's been getting lately.

I really hope he can do well. I personally haven't managed to see any of the more recent games he's played in but i have faith that he can recapture last seasons form

Here, here. Best is a cracking player and I'd rather have him in the side than Shola. At the same time though, that injury he got a short while ago really seems to have done a number on him. Hope he can recapture his good form, if he starts with Shola then I have no doubts he will.

I like him, and think he is good enough to lead the line for a few games without Ba, he's definitely better than Shola.

I hope he gets better, and improves certain parts of his game, he's still young enough. Even when he was getting goals, he pissed me off for his offsides!!

See I really hate it when people say this.

He had a great scoring record, up until Ba hit his form, then Best stopped scoring, BUT was still doing his part, setting up chances, and getting assists.

He's been in and out of the team with injuries or simply being 2nd or 3rd choice.

When he has a run of games, he tends to score goals, when he's in and out of the team all the time, he doesn't.

Lay off the lad. He hasn't scored recently, but every striker has a bit of a bad patch.

Good players, holds the ball up well and can get a shot away. Sometimes has quiet games but does not deserve some of the stick he gets. Him and Ba were an impressive partnership earlier in the season so hopefully he can do the same with Shola or HBA.

He's good at chesting it down, but not great at flicking it on; he's good in the box, but he's not incredible = alright, imo

Flicking it on, not really, but he wins more in the air than Ameobi and Ba, and knocks it done well for players.

Best also has canny skills, and can make himself chances. Remember that goal he scored vs Fulham, when Ba smashed it across the ground, Best took control of the ball, back heeled the ball, turned quickly, and finished.

    That sums him up really.

I'd rather have him than Ameobi any day.

Best isn't brilliant, but he isn't as terrible as may users make out either. Solid 7/10 squad player.

I agree, people say shola is stronger and wins the balls in the air more but thats complete pants, best is probably close to him strength wise and has better balance, if you look at the stats or even just watch the games, best wins more headers and long ball challenges and he doesnt give the ball away half as much, also his goal to game ratio is far superior.

Best needs to prove he can be a consistent goal scorer, I don't care if he's good at chesting down the ball or sets up chances and gets assists (we have quality midfielders to do that) he is a striker and his job is to put the ball in the net on a consistent basis which at the moment I'm still unconvinced he is capable of

Based on what? Ameobi set up Ba vs United...Best set up obertans cross vs stoke

Both flick ons, i cant remember many other flick ons this season to be honest with you, i think people delude themselves sometimes.

Best chested the ball down excellently once in the united game, is that what you are basing your entire "chesting it down" hypothesis on???

Selective memory combined with subconcious joining of dots that dont exist = somebody thinks they have an informed opinion

No based on having seen every game he's played for us, bar a couple. I agree that just because something important comes from a flick-on once doesn't mean he's good at them, and just because he pulled it down well once doesn't mean he's good at chesting it down. It's just something I've noticed; especially earlier this season, he often came off the last defender and dropped into the gap between defence and midfield and chested it down. However, when up one-on-one with defenders, he seemed to be dominated

EDIT: turns out I'm not alone in thinking he's good with his chest. HA! ;)
