Pinched as an idea from elsewhere on the internet but who had the best debut you can remember.

For me you have to seriously consider Micky Quinn. Not the greatest of players but as far as debuts were concerned his was pretty hard to beat.

Hate to be pedantic but the reference at the end to..."in only his SECOND appearance" tends to mean that this entry is disqualified from this thread.

Quinns home debut was sublime. 4 goals against a decent Leeds Side.
    Unconventional he was but effective.
Utterly loves the Toon still and openly admits his bias.

He's seeing double. When he looked in the mirror he thought it was sumo wrestler with 4 legs and 2 tiny cocks.

Cannot go beyond Sebb's suggestion for a player for me. Mickey Quinn's four goals against Leeds will be hard to beat for a debut performance. A special mention to Supermac though who scored a hattrick against Liverpool for us on his home debut.

Perhaps we should be expecting the next player to have a spectacular debut to be doing it as part of his crap football journalism training?

However, best overall debut performance has got to be Sir Bobby and the 8-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday. It was a special occasion anyway, but the atmosphere in the stadium on that day will remain one of my best memories for life.

Notice our side seemed to contain Will's dad, I.AM.McFall according to the commentator.

Remember the Supermac game well. I missed it.

Was on family holiday in Torquay Mother, father, brother and sister and me. We were due to go back home on that Saturday and had a family vote to decide whether to come home a day early. Was so confident we would win the vote with me, my father and brother on one side and my mother and sister on the other side. Father betrayed me and my brother and voted to stay til the Saturday and not to go home on the Friday. Hence I missed the match.

It took him a long time to make up for that vote.

I was just too young to remember that game, but that was the first Toon top I ever had. Scratched like **** but still treasured <laugh>

I watched the Nufc V Barca game where Asprilla got a hat-trick (not a debut) on BT Sport Europe the otherday and I would have been about 10 at the time, but I just couldnt grasp how amazing the atmosphere was, like I knew it was good, but I must have just forgotten how good it was, there wasnt a single person in SJP not making noise

Was one of the best atmospheres at St James' I can remember. Up there with the arsenal 4-4 (second half anyway) and the 5-1. Also the early 1968/9 Euro nights.

I lost my voice during the arsenal game. Had a rare move to the SJH stand courtesy of a mate and to this day I cannot believe what happened.

This for me, doesn't get any better than that for a debut!

Ahem, didn't Stephan Guiv'arch score a goal off his ass on his debut? That's right up there.
