A ball become dead when its results in a corner or free kick. We have had great dead specialists in the past and present in the premiership. 1. David Beckham. 2,Christiano Ronaldo 3.Steve Gerrard. 4.Musut Ozil 5 Wayne Rooney 6.Others (Name)
Never up for debate, Beckham is arguably the best dead ball specialist ever to play, but to be fair to players past, they didn't have those ball types they have now that are literally designed ot fool the keeper and curve in the air, or the specialised boots either
Beckham easily. He could plant a ball on to the end of a players foot from 50 yards. Shame he couldn't run, dribble or beat players, but as far as placing a pass or shot.....No. 1 for me
Does anyone realise the rage when you frantically type to get your point across and half the letters don't appear in what you typed? pff, combat, nothing compared to the stress Very observant and I'd love to take the credit but we both know I am not that sharp
Seen him score from 50+ yards v Argentina in the Copa in the pissig rain, a straight bullet with so much power the keeper got nowhere near it, could he do it on a warm night in Grimsby tho? Rooney is a worse option than Ozil, Rooney is a deceased granny specialist not a dead ball specialist
Beckham wasn't wcen all that from direct free kicks. Far more players have better records than him. Juninhio was one of first I saw to use the straight run up and get it to swerve and dip rather than the traditional curl. Was pretty good.
Gerrard can't take a corner to save his life... mess year his quality at deliviries from outside the box was outstanding though.
Can't really judge on corners (assuming they beat the first man) because you just put it into an area and hope one of your team is half awake enough to attack it. Without the team mates attacking, they'd look awful constantly being headed clear. So, free kick wise, probably Beckham in the PL - although he was an average player aside from long or dead balls. There was a time when I remember feeling that Suarez could score from any freekick last season though - he was pretty deadly. Seb Larsson and Ronaldo weren't half bad either although the former will never get recognition due to not being a big name.
In terms of delivering the ball, dead ball crossing, corners, long range freekicks into the area etc; Beckham was the best. In terms of scoring freekicks Ronaldo. Does Ronaldo take corners for Madrid, always thought he'd be better in the area as he's a good header of the ball as well.
I was going to suggest Larson, only thing is I think before he scored a direct free kick esrlier this year he'd gone about 3 years without one which surprised me.
