with the right signings this could prove to be the right season to seriously try for a trophy.

with players such as barton, nolan and enrique seemingly having their careers away from the toon in the not too distant future, and with signings that seem to replace these players i.e. cabaye, and IF we get the other right signings for the club then we should have a decent strength in depth for this season coming.

having the right combination of players this season will allow us to push for a trophy and survive the "second season" syndrome.

im not saying we WILL win a trophy. but im saying this is probably the best time to have a season dedicated to trying for one

EDIT: also another question: would you take a trophy at the expense of premier league football?

stranger things have happened. if pardew wants to leave his mark, i think he should make it quite high on the agenda.

also another question: would you take a trophy at the expense of premier league football?

in all honesty no i wouldnt take a trophy over it. we had a good squad last time we were there. but whos to say we will if it happens again. its a tough league to get out of and we might not be so fortunate in the future.

on the other hand tho. a trophy win = europe, and on that factor alone, we could attract some decent players enough to get out of the championship should that event ever occur

Forget the cups , I expect us to win the league.

If we don't , sack the manager and sack the board.

  8. The FA cup is the one we should go for, because if you get to the finals you're garunteed a cup or a Europa spot

depends on the league position of the winning team if the runners up get into europe or not.

if the team finishes 5th or lower and wins the cup, then the runner up doesnt get that europa spot

a think we could have a good run in the europa league tbh, although a dont think quality players we'd need to go far in it would be too keen on playing there trade in the chamionship! we'll just have to see how birmingham do :D cant see them doing too well in either tbh (if key players leave). we'll never qualify via fair play with tiote, but a wouldnt change him for the world! is the intertoto still going?

If you think the squad is capable of seriously competing in the Europa League, then I don't think there'd be any worry about the same squad getting relegated

Would Pards go down in history in Newcastle if he won a cup? First manager to win a domestic trophy for 50ish years?

We're more than capable of winning a cup - just look at the list of teams that've won one since the last time we had a pot! I've mentioned this before, I hope that if we do win a cup, or when we eventually win a cup, it's the FA Cup, something we can really celebrate. Although a cup is a cup is a cup and entry to Europe, it'll be such an anti-climax to end our extraordinary drought with the CC, because it's nowt. Not something you can really show off about, and we'd be laying ourselves wide open to deserved mockery if we had an open top bus or something. In an ideal world we'll end our drought with the FA Cup, whether it'll be this year - don't hold you breath!
