Following on from the Holt Twitter thread I was thinking to myself which opposing players have been the best for taking and dishing out banter with the crowd or opposing players. For example, I couldn't help but think that Leighton Baines was blimmin hilarious on Saturday. He knew very well that he shouldn't have ever been allowed to stay on the pitch and was being targetted by the crowd so when he strolled over to take the corner in front of the snake pit, who gave him a warm welcome, he rolled the ball over the quadrant, much to the anger of the fans who went ballistic, then rolled the ball back with a smile and an appreciative nod as if to say ha - had you lot there! Top banana!
Going back a number of years I remember Gordon Strachan getting dog's abuse from a bloke sat in front of me for the entire match then setting up a goal and scoring another and looking the bloke right in the eye and winking at him on his way back to the centre circle. Not a word said but everyone knew. Robert Fleck was getting stick from the Celtic fans in a pre-season frinedly and did the classic Jarvis Cocker waft around the shorts area in response.
Surely Holty's response to the Swansea fans at the Liberty has to be the ultimate come back Simply doesn't get any better than scoring two goals to win the game and then showing off his entirely ripped physique in front of the home fans after being called a "fat bastard" for more than an hour - magic moment indeed and well worth the yellow card
