Ok not football-related, but I am so stressed over this Saturday I thought I would post a distraction. It has to be the Electric Light Orchestra closely followed by the Beatles and Stones as joint second. Out of the Blue has to be the greatest ever album - I used to put my headphones on and the vinyl on the turntable with the lights out back in the 70's and drift away. My daughter just put it on my iPod and I've rediscovered them - like old friends. I had all their albums at one time but they got lost/broken/nicked over the years. Many of them were on cassette (remember cassettes?). Prefer the Jeff Lynn ELO to the Roy Wood era too.
too many to pick from, Clash - Stranglers - Stiff Little Fingers - Massive Attack - Joy Division - Bloodhound Gang - Undertones -
Don't know many old bands. There are a few bands I like and one that has just popped up is The Ruen Brothers. Check out there new song, Aces. Proper music and been addicted to this song for months
The Stones for me were the best band. We 'Mods' in the 60's were more in to BlueBeat and Soul. Some like the Who but not my cup of tea. Loved Otis Redding.
Beatles, Queen, Who, Deep Purple, Bruce Springstein, Kinks, Suzie Quatro, Sousie Sue and the Banshees, Kinks, Clash, Stranglers, The Jam, Joy Division, Bowie could go on forever
Love em or hate them, I love U2 have all there CD's but they are now run close for me by The Killers. Best angry mood listening to bands Mettalica or AC/DC
Nirvana queen foo fighters up there for me also gotta have some newer stuff like mcr evanescence bvb and if I want something a bit more heavy Metallica Korn slipknot and if I need more screamy bring me the horizon
Wishbone ash, Yes, Zepplin, The Who (first saw them at The Vetch Field in Swansea '76), Queen - here's a claim to fame - only ever saw them once, at the Colston Hall as backing band to Mott the Hoople early 70's - any one else there?
greatest bands..springsteen circa nevada, the pogues, marvin gaye, bobby womack, miles davis, the faces, the clash, dusty, aretha, all a matter of mood.
60's The who / Rolling stones 70's Queen / Clash 80's U2 / Simple minds 90's Stone roses / Oasis 2000's Coldplay / snow patrol 2010's Calvin harris / Florence and the machine
Stones, Led Zepplin, Hawkwind, Wishbone Ash, Pink Floyd for me, but I also liked....wait for it!! Earth Wind & Fire....now that's a mix up...lol
Great choices lads - love them all but ELO is still the best. Seen live: Springsteen, Bryan Adams (twice), INXS, the kinks, the searchers, the monkees, wishbone ash, Tina turner, Gary glitter (hiss) Ralph mctell, hazel o'connor, toto, Alan parsons project, that group who sung china in your hand, focus. Never seen Jeff and the boys tho. Special mention for Dire Straits : love over gold and making movies were special albums. Shiny - I liked the band in your link - I'll look out for them.
I also seem to remember Queen starting off a tour as support band to Mott the Hoople(A big group at the time) Was it at the Colston Hall? God so long back, Hawkwind yes remember Victim of a Sonic attack as the first record of their I bought. Procul Harem I think the first record of theirs I was given was Salty Dog had to hear Whiter Shade of Pale before I really appreciated them though. Always had a catholic taste in Music everything from ABBA to ZZTOP going via The Boss and for sheer sillyness Sigue Sigue Sputnik or the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band.
Tau Pau? or Berlin one did China the other did Take my breath away will think about it overnight getting tired now.
T'pau done China in your hand. Saw Hawkwind in Glastonbury 1978/79 it was the first time lazer's was used at a gig in this country I believe. I was only 13 and people were selling grass, I asked my mum "why were they selling it there's loads on the ground?" Forgot about Floyd they have to be up there as one of the top bands, I love the album The Final Cut, not everyone's favourite but I just love it Wonder if they redo it now the Falklands have started to get restless again?
BCFC...strange you mention ELO.....whenever I turn the radio on now there seems to be an ELO track playing....must be a tour/album/Glastonbury coming up! Although I've got an eclectic choice of music it's hard to look beyond the Beatles and Rolling Stones. They're not my favourite bands but the Beatles took songwriting and 'popular' music to a brand new level; and the Stones uncovered the Blues/Rhythm'n'Blues music of Black America and brought it into the mainstream of British, and then world, music. Personal 'Best Bands'(ie not solo artists)?....Free, Roxy Music, Led Zeppelin, almost all Motown/ Stax/Atlantic groups, Cream...............
