Based on things like, facilities, comfort, atmosphere, banter with home fans etc What is the best club [so doesn't include Wembley] ground you have visited as an away fan following Saints? ...and [apart from the inevitable answer of Fratton Park ] the worst one?
Best: The Etihad. Worst: The Withdean was pretty awful! Also... Most Overrated: The AMEX, it really isn't as good as it is made out to be.
Worst has to be White Hart Lane: the train I was on was showered in heavy rocks and on emergence out of the station to the roads around the ground I was struck by the amount of rubbish and racist slogans adorning the streets. This was followed by some pretty abusive language from a urine drenched granny (I wasn't sporting any Southampton garb). Terrible intimidating experience which was capped off by an inept Saints performance where we played Kevin Davies up front on his own and proceeded to try and lump the ball up to him in the air, we lost 1-0. Always enjoyed trips to Highbury and saw some amazing matches there, such as the 6-2 game before our FA Cup final.
Best Club Ground I've been to: between The Emirates or The Etihad Best Club Ground following Saints: umm probs The Reebok or The Ricoh Worst Club Ground I've been to: Old Trafford Worse Club Ground following Saints: The Amex
Sutton United. Pre-season. Awful little tinpot ground.... Almost as if they were non-league ffs. Best.... West Ham.
Best - I really enjoyed going to Villa Park. Worst - Saltergate - Chesterfield's old ground was awful. I've not been to Fratton Park but I should imagine it's something similar!
I take no pleasure in this but the worst has to be Fratton Park. It was my 1st visit this season and going traveling via the bubble was an experience. Whilst the abuse from the locals was more funny than scary the state of the stadium and the concourse was very poor. Whilst some league one grounds are about the same or could be described as slightly worse I didn't pay £40 to go in! The best is Villa Park for me. but plenty of large newer stadia missing from my cv. MK dons has great facilities but is let down by location & soul
I had a slightly different experience at that game OROW. I drove and parked at the ground, then went in a box with free drinks and a nice meal.
Enjoyed a visit to the old highbury stadium and the worst was Kenilworth Rd Luton the turnstilesare basically the frontage of a couple of terraced houses which you walk through and under up some steps which are basically what appears to be someones garden and into the back of a tin shed twinning as a stand great day all the same as we won
Worst was Riverside, the beer in the local pubs was shiete (I'm not surprised it was only £1.65 odd) Best, any London ground because it's a decent beer up.
Who was the manager at the time rj__02 was it Wigley. I just remember the rubbish game being abysmal.
