Seems a shame, from what's been said he might have been open to a move to Liverpool if we'd made a bid. His agent is quoted as saying, "If it is up to me, Bernard will be a Porto player. As I have said, this would be the best solution for him. He would prefer to join a middling, but good, club in Europe rather than risk joining an elite club and not getting the chance to play." We might not have been able to offer Champions League football but getting into the first team wouldn't have been a problem! Whatever happens it seems likely that Bernard won't complete his move until January as he wants to play in the World Club Cup for Atletico in November.
Not seen enough of him to make any form of assessment. There's no way that you can say that he would walk into a first team place. South Americans usually find the transition to European football problematic - hence their preference to move to Spain or Portugal initially.
both proto and hsaktar were named by him specifically. and two enlgish clubs. shaktar accept dual ownership i think so i am of the opinion his handlers are maneuvering him for a big money transfer in the next two years. fine if you are happy to do so but not for long term. In shrot ideal for spurs who need to sell on successes to buy more to maintain 5th
Weren't Arsenal in for him as well? tbf, I had never heard of him before last month so I'm not disappointed
Sounds like Shaktar are the only ones who have met the asking price so far Atletico Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil said, "Things are very advanced. The team is Shakhtar. They offered the value we want. If Bernard wants, he will go."
I only heard of him this season but he's very highly regarded in Brazil and is already in the national team set up. From the scraps I've seen online he looks like a very exciting prospect and his stats for this year back that up. Admittedly there's a big difference between football in England and Brazil but I can't imagine a situation where he'd be kept out of our starting line up by Stewart Downing.
