Any top tips on where to stay? Obviously want to do the historical bits and see some good nightlife. But where is best to stay to do both and are there any must not miss things to see or do?
Never been, but apparently I’ve been told I should go as there are sights there that would just take my breath away. sorry!!
Love Berlin mate, I'm away for 2 weeks tomorrow but to Munich and the rhine and Moselle. If you love nightlife go here mate. Thank me later https://klo.de/#Startseite
Loved visiting Berlin. No tips, can't remember much. White Russians were cheap in some bar somewhere, but all a bit fuzzy after that Hope this helps
Nor but I do remember the nightlife in east Berlin was class, this is after the wall got flattened like. About 20 years ago.
Historical stuff is brilliant. Two of the best things I did were- go to a football game (we went to see Hertha, so you got some history too cos they play in the Olympic Stadium)- -we found a proper local bar, with a load of old boys in it and football pennants everywhere. Just sat in there drinking good German beer and chatting to these old German fellas about football and other stuff. If you like beer, try the Beliner Kindl Weisse. Sour beer, I love it but its not to everyone's taste.
I love Berlin, in fact I've had a great time in every German city I've visited, the people are fantastic hosts, so my advice would be, just go, try everything, and enjoy.
We did the same for a lads stag do. Went to watch Hertha which was great. Stag dressed as Princess Leia, the best man dressed as Darth Vader, plus 12 lads all dresses up as storm troopers (not the SS ones). Walking ti the match an armoured police van screeched past, 6 armed police got put and came storming over. We all **** ourselves, until they explained they just wanted to take their photos with us. -8°, was ****ing freezing. Ended up in the stand with a group of German fans passing spliffs about. Fun day out.
Great city... Had a job offer to work there around 20 years ago, big regret never took it.. But enjoy mate, the place is amazing and oozing with history
I served in Berlin for 2 years back in the eighties. Berliner Kindl was always my choice. Went back there 17 years ago on a city break, my drinking habits had changed but that was still bloody lovely. For @ISOE II . The Berlin Olympic Stadium do tours. Cheap as chips and you can have a guided tour or walk around yourself....check this out www.getyourguide.com/berlin-l17/berlin-olympia-stadium-entrance-ticket-t465523/?ranking_uuid=71aef81c-ef6b-4501-a277-1b53722eb605 Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, commonly known as the Blue Church is a must see.....not far from the Kurfustendam Strasse. Shops, clubs etc. Checkpoint Charlie was strange going back to it, as going though it in the 80s was pretty strange with Russian and East German guards. If my memory serves me well the museum was a fortune so I stayed clear. Reichstag and the Brandenburg Gate are iconic buildings. There's loads more to do....enjoy
Stayed in a weird place above a bar that had a lot of old school military types from both sides drink in it. Was like a German Fawlty Towers with a verging on Nazi German Basil. My surname isn’t common and when we arrived he said how relieved he was that I wasn’t black and at Breakfast warned us the east, where we were heading, had lots of Africans. He had a little bald moustachioed sidekick called Gunther. Despite the above Berlin was amazing.
