Thought I'd make a thread on him and his transfer all to itsself. Anyone know what the deal is? I've heard lots ranging from a loan to a short-term permanent contract and him taking a big wage cut to Man Utd subsidising his wages.
From what I gather the price is around 3-4 million. Most likely a two year contract on wages of around 30K p/w If all are true, fantastic deal. Best of the transfer window so far.
Superb deal for you guys. This man was solely responsible for reigniting my love of football when he came to Spurs. Looking forward to seeing what he can do for you guys.
Funny when QPR signed a 30 yr old i was told on here that was too old yet when foolham sign a 30 yr old it's 'Best of the transfer window' which it is clearly not.
I am very enthusiastic about the Berbatov move (fingers crossed), but i would like to know from the FFC 606rs,the following. Berbatov or should we have gone for Jorden Rhodes.
I think that this is a great signing, a player with true quality who has good history with Jol. I'd still have AJ though....(tongue firmly in cheek)!! ha ha
One has a proven track record, but a relatively limited shelf life, the other is more of a gamble but more potential. Given the asking price of each, I think we've probably got the better short-term deal.
I agree that this isn't the best deal of the window, but it's still a good one. As for our comments on your various 30+ year olds, I guess it depends which one we were talking about. If it was Andy Johnson or Bobby Zamora, it reflects the view that most on here have that neither of them are the player they once were. I think Bobby can still do a good job in the Premier League - I gather he played well in midweek in the cup - but I don't think AJ is a Premier League goalscorer anymore. Apart from one notable exception (I won't spell out which one, I'm nice like that), most of his goals last season came in Europa league games and most were against sub-standard keepers. I thought AJ played great for us last year in everything except his finishing.
Not jealous. I think DB is a good signing for Fulham, i was just refering to something you lot said on here about 30 yr old players.
I'd like to have seen both rosc, but given a choice Berbatov. Where we as of Tuesday I think screamed, experience. Rhodes is an excellent signing for Blackburn and I'm sure he'll benefit enormously with our old pair behind him, especially Danny. It was an awful lot to pay however, presumably using their 'parachute' money to try and get back to the premiership quickly (although they had to do something I suppose with the Sunderland guy getting injured even before the season started). For us, not worth the risk at that price. Also it would have put a block on out own youngsters.
Interesting stats from last season, which include Berbatov. Oh, and Captain's Mr Fletcher (impressive !). I admit I was surprised not to see Dempsey. http://sulia.com/channel/arsenal-fc/f/9fc6341b-c175-4a4a-8c0c-9df5fde0fb80/?source=twitter
For me its Berbatov, we must have cash in the kitty, and then in another 17 weeks the new window opens if we should wish to add to our squad. If Rhodes has an average season, and Blackburn fail in their bid to return to the premiership,he could return to the market.
Berbatov is a top top player still. He didn't play much at United because his style didn't suit the style of football the team was playing. You'll soon find out he probably has the best ball control in the premier league and the amount of times he'll casually walk out of a 1v4 situation with the ball glued at his feet will leave your mind blown.
This 30 year old has 2 premier League winner's titles and was top scorer in the league in 2011. We're paying for him what you payed for Bobby Zamora, and we're paying him a lower salary. Which would you prefer? Bobby + AJ (what QPR bought) or Rodallega, Petric, Berbatov and £2M left over (What Jol got with the money)? I probably shouldn't bait you though... after all you are contending for the premier league (according to Julio Cesar)
