I don't think he's joking either. If I remember correctly, he headed straight at the keeper from point blank range when it would've been easier to score. So he doesn't want to make Shearer (his boyhood idol) or Cole (United legend) angry, but he's not bothered about Defoe!
The fact that your players have chances to score, but apparently choose not to, does this not worry you?
