Just seen this on Sky website tonight.

30 year old Bent to go to 2nd bottom of the championship club this weekend. I'm not saying we should, only should we?

Surely he is better than championship and he is better than Altidore and Wickham. Is take him on loan until the summer if we don't have money in January.

Thoughts?

Has he done much in the last 4 years?
Is he in form?
Is he fit?
Would villa loan him to a relegation competitor?

Good to see you posting Cest - missed you mate.

I'm 100% with Billy on this one, it's excellent to see the greedy bastard fall so low. I'd love him to be up for a loan move to Darlo, but for them to turn him down

Seriously, we can only get free agents up till January, meaning why would loan him in Jan? **** Bent, Buy someone else in Jan and try and off load Connor or Jozy.

It's a cracking Gif isn't it? Really depicts the level of hilarity at Bent playing in the Championship.

Glad to see he's finding his level - although - at least he's still playing unlike some of the lazy ****ers who'd rather sit on their arses for the money

I wouldn't take him back. Not because I think he has lost his ability (or that he is a greedy twat), but because he is a player who needs to attack/team to be built around him and I don't think that we need a player like that. We need an attacker that fits our style, rather than us fitting our style round them.

Simply doesn't fit into modern systems at the highest level.

He's not a good enough footballer to play the modern number 10 role and he doesnt have the strength or ability to play the number 9 role. Dinosaur that is nigh on extint.

When Darren Bent left Sunderland in January 2011, the English forward thought he was improving his already impressive career by joining, in his own words, a ‘humongous’ club.

He was of course talking about Aston Villa, who ended his misery on Wearside and spent £18m for his services.

Today, Bent has joined Brighton on loan for one month. It is fair to say most of Wearside are sniggering and laughing at Darren’s expense.

He could, and should, have been the next legend at the Stadium of Light. It’s strange how money can effect even the most prolific and loved forward since Kevin Phillips but it just goes to show that money is not always the only path towards progression.

As soon as Bent joined Sunderland for £10m the whole place was lifted as he went on to score on his debut away to Bolton, at the time the fans were growing excited at their clubs chances with such a potent threat up front.

In his first season he managed to score an incredible 24 Premier league goals, this worked out to be 50 per cent of all our goals scored in total, no wonder we loved him!

Little did Sunderland know that greed had already started to consume the former Ipswich and Spurs striker, as he started the next season by scoring eight league goals before he handed in his transfer request to Steve Bruce’s bewilderment.

Why Sunderland fans are laughing as Darren Bent moves to Brighton
Darren Bent has hardly featured for Aston Villa this season (Picture: Getty Images)
Some argued he left due to limited chances for the national team, some say he wanted to move abroad to Turkey but everyone really knew the main reason he wanted to leave was due to the money being offered by Aston Villa.

Does he regret this decision to leave a club with fans who poured all the heart out towards him in every game? Does he regret the chance of becoming the next legend in the North East by trying to catch the records set by Phillips and Brian Clough?

He won’t admit any regret as he forces a smile for the press today in a Brighton shirt but deep down he knows he blew a massive chance to become recognised over time rather than waste away on a subs bench in the Midlands!

Sunderland fans will all rejoice in the fact that he has to drop down a division in order to revitalise his stop-start career and every time he encounters someone who supports the team he ditched.

They can happily say to him: ‘I told you so!’ – surely nothing can beat that feeling, knowing that we were always right to be angry he left and his greed got the better of a talented individual.

None of us will wish him luck and hopefully this drastic attempt to put himself in the shop window will massively backfire and no other team takes a chance on him as he has shown his real loyalty already in the past.

We sold at the right time, we got loads of money for him and to be honest he was not looking so good when he did go. I remember most of us saying Welbeck and Gyan were a better option up top.
