Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill to wait on Nicklas Bendtner Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill says he will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to sign Nicklas Bendtner on a permanent deal. The 24-year-old Denmark international signed from Arsenal on a season-long loan in August 2011 and has since scored seven goals in 26 games. "I'm very pleased, he's doing very well," O'Neill told BBC Newcastle. "We have not entered into any discussions at all, let's see what the end of the season brings." O'Neill added: "While we are improving as a team, we are not Arsenal at the moment, and he will have been used to - at a team like Arsenal - being able to retain the ball for good spells of games." Bendtner has had a mixed spell on and off the field at the Stadium of Light, with criticism from fans for aspects of his play added to an arrest and charge of damaging vehicles against him that was later dropped. He also suffered a facial injury that forced him to don a protective mask, following fears he may have lost his sight. Bendtner statistics Games: 26 Goals: Seven Assists: Five Shots: 54 However a run of four goals in eight games, including a penalty that earned a point in the derby with Newcastle United, has brought the Dane into prominence under O'Neill's tutelage. "While Nicklas will have a few detractors who says he doesn't do this, and doesn't do that, actually we're getting something out of him, and he's responding," said the Northern Irishman. "He wants to be top class, but there are certain things you have to do in a football game to make you that. "I thought his performance against Manchester City was excellent, really excellent."
I think that's due to him coming deep for the ball. He is a danger when he's in and around the box, what I find interesting is that the wording of the quotes does suggest he is open to staying, which may mean a shift in his mentality. That could see him develop the way he was expected to, and for the figures bandied about, he's worth the punt.
Or..as we have seen we have a big lack of strikers i.e. Sess has to try to stand in. all 4ft 11ins of him. when Bendtner is injured..So we need him atm for last few games and we need to keep him motivated as possible, which usally does not amount to much, but come the summer the lanky streak of slow moving forward can sod off cos' MoN is bringing in some new folk Please, Please Please. Although I would not mind him scoring against Manure to ensure hey do not win the league.
Supposed to be a striker, but mostly out of position, should spend a month ata the SPERKEV SCHOOL FOR STRIKERS, otherwise get rid.
Think it's been fairly obvious we have been a better team with him in it. For the reputed sum of £4 million I really don't see how we could get anyone better for that money, it seems a bit of a bargain for me. If MON keeps him I think he will do really well for us, he won't need to settle in like a new striker would (although we would need another one of similar quality), he knows the players already at the club and the area. I would be very happy to keep him.
I would only have him if we either got Gyan back as well or signed someone else of quality as well. Its obvious to me our forward line has not been good enough this season so something has to change.
