Benali's Legal Action...

Hi all, I've just read on the Sky Sports app that the Echo are reporting that Southampton will vigorously fight any legal action from Ex Saint Franny Benali! Does anyone know what this is referring to as I haven't got a scooby?

 

Isn't it something to do with a bill that Benali says Saints owe......? That Saints say they do not owe, or that it has been paid or some such?

 

I believe it's something to do with a house Cortese rented off of Benali, and Cortese had some work done without permission.

Something along those lines anyway.

Loss of ambassador fees as well.

 

What did Benali do for that money though? I never knew him to do any ambassadorial work.

 

SFC rented a house from Benali for Cortese who then replaced some carpet with a quality wooden floor. The disagreement seems to be about what the deposit covers. He's angry that anything was done to his house...does seem odd to alter a rented property. The other issue is money that Benali considers he is owed under his contract as an ambassador under the previous regime. All such contracts were cancelled when Markus took over. Nicola said at the time he asked them to prove they would earn the money they were paid and he says they couldn't.

 

As much as I love Le Tissier, at least Benali is going about this the right way. ie, not in the public domain every other day.

 

I remember Cortese saying that he was horrified to find the number of people leeching off the club without contributing anything in a financial sense (not his actual words but the gist of it).

 

Probably because it could ruin his court case.

 

Possibly, but still he could have blabbed to the press before he even knew it was going that far, back when it all started.

 

Haven't a clue, but Benali didn't like that Saints stopped paying him so must be a fair amount.

 

Don't know about Benali specifically, but Cortese was quoting 40K/yr when he took over. Benali must consider that he had a contract with SFC that was taken over by the new regime.

 

Thanks all! You're dead right, LeTiss could learn a thing or two from Franny. LeTiss was always my hero growing up, I've even met him a few times through Bally's family but he's wearing a bit thin now to be honest!

 

Its sad. Come the end of the season, whether we stay up or go down, theres going to be some time set aside to reflect on this year. Some issues have been truly strange, things I'd never dream we'd have to deal with after the trouble free last few years. Certainly tainted the season a bit.
