According to the Sunday mirror, ourselves, hull and Leicester (favourites) want to sign Ben Marshall.

The owls rate him as their best player along with semedo. He's on loan from stoke and due to go back after our match. He's a winger I believe, so not sure if there is much truth as we have green and JJ. I just wonder if CP is thinking of putting Jackson in the middle.

Wednesday fans were certain that he'd be re-signing for Stoke and going back to Hillsborough on loan.

To be honest, I'm not sure why Stoke would do that. They've sent him on loan to L1/L2 clubs for the whole time he's been with them. If he doesn't really have a future with them, then maybe they would want to cash in before his contract expires.

If Leicester are in for him, then Leicester will get him. But Leicester are in for everyone, according to the papers.

We'll see. Would be an interesting addition to the squad, for sure.

hmmm interesting so far then we're Eight days into the window - We've signed Leon Clarke and we're being linked with:

Jamie Vardy, Danny Haynes and Ben Marshall.

Out of the three I'd like to see us sign Danny Haynes especially if he re-creates the form that he produced whilst at Ipswich.

The interesting thing is looking @ Wiki he's the same age as Danny Green, was released by us at 16 so surely the two will have played together in the Youth Team, both were probably released in the summer at the same time

Trouble is if Leicester are going for everyone they're gonna have to be careful that they start going for the right players, else players are gonna be talking to Leicester wondering if they're leaving one club as a backup player and doing the same joining another.

We're also gonna have to be careful ourselves based on this, as John Sullivan said the other day the players who arent getting in the Squad cant complain because we're winning games.

Yeah, that's assuming they're actually in for the players they're linked with. Could just as easily be agent talk.

On another note, according to Owlstalk, we're the third highest spenders in the division, after Sheff Utd and Huddersfield. I would've thought we were behind Wednesday and Preston too. Anyone know any more about this?

We cant be that high in the spending list we've signed 22 players this season BUT:

Hughes, Evina, Taylor, Hayes, Sullivan, Euell, Pritchard, Hollands, Alonso, Kermorgant were all Free.
Hamer, Morrison, Green, Stephens Wiggins were the ones we paid money for.
    Clarke was a swap deal.

This is why I hate it when the likes of Ward (Colchester) and Rosler (Brentford) are coming out saying that had their own clubs spend the millions we'd spent this summer they'd be top themselves, when if they'd stop and realise all we've done is been clever with the Free Transfer market

I think in wages we are near the top, despite actually reducing the wage bill.

Whilst Taylor was a free, we apparently outbid Huddersfield for him (he originally wanted to move up north if I remember rightly?)

I understand this, but still, the wages Semedo was on would've probably paid for two or three of the players who came in. And he's now at Wednesday, no doubt on similar wages to what he was on with us (he was Megson's first choice, so I imagine the boat could've been pushed out).

Obviously, Sheff Utd, Preston and to a lesser extent Scunthorpe have players on Championship wages.

Outbidding Huddersfield for Taylor could mean that we had a different valuation of the player. Perhaps they were looking at him as backup

A lot of ifs and maybes in there. Maybe my judgement is clouded by the fact that we got to clear Semedo, Racon and Youga from the wagebill. There are a lot of players in the squad now so you could be right. Wednesday's loanees can't be cheap mind

Surely players signed on a free (not including Euell and perhaps also Hughes and Pritchard) would have got a signing-on fee and/or an augmented salary which would equate to a transfer fee? I bet Evina, Taylor, Hollands and Kermorgant all got expensive deals by Div One standards as they could all pick and choose which club they joined.

Signing on fee's aren't extravagant down in these leagues (well, they weren't a few years ago).

There is more cash incentives for success.
