Can't believe BBB is languishing in League 1 with Notts County. Thought he did very well for us until that horrific injury against Huddersfield. Still cant believe to this day that their keeper didn't walk for what I thought was a very dodgy challenge. Wonder if he and Danny Allsop could have made the step up with the likes of Ash and Dawson? Deffo think if it wasnt for the astma that Stuart Elliot suffered from he would have started our first BPL match against Fulham too.
I thought both Burgess and Allsopp struggled at Championship level for us - although Burgess went on to do okay for Blackpool.
Burgess and Alsopp were for me the best 'true partnership' we have had since Whitehurst and Edwards had one glorious season. Individually they werent great but they were on such a wavelength that they were consistantly exceptional. I distinctly remember them tearing apart top of the table Oxford in a 4-2 win when up until that point they'd only conceded somthing like 10 goals that season. Legends.
Unfortunatley father time has caught upto BBB and now league one is where he belongs. Yes that injury did not help and i do think he would have been a bigger success for us but for that injury. Thanks Ben for all that you did but time and age has now caught you up. Good luck for the future and your place in Hull City history is assured.
That was probably my favourite game that season. Before hand their captain was saying how they were the better team etc etc. From that game onward Oxford went spiraling down the table and we went on to promotion. Earlier in the season they beat us 2-1 at their place - after the game some numpty fan of theirs was saying how he was disappointed with us since we had spent so much money. Given the direction of the two clubs since that day I wonder who was disappointed in the longer run?
Allsopp left for Australia before our promotion to the Chamionship in 2005. Ben did ok but didn't get a decent run in the team. Did ok at Blackpool but the injury he had probably held him back a bit. If we had two strikers with the sort partnership and goal tallys like they had now we'd be laughing.
i agree, there where many games in the lower leagues particularly away from home, where we didnt play that well, but usually a quick 5 minute flash from them two linking up and we killed many games off..
