http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-star-craig-bellamy-7150271 Craig Bellamy is being strongly linked with a shock move to Swiss club Servette, who want the Welsh legend as part of a management team involving ex Cardiff City star Kevin Cooper. Reports surrounding the pair emerged in the Swiss media this morning. A third Cardiff connection involves Julian Jenkins, who is leaving the Bluebirds to become general manager at Sevette. The Swiss club's president Hugh Quennec confirmed his interest in the two. But although he seems set to land Copper, currently in charge of the under 21 development side at Cardiff, Quennec is less confident about bringing Bellamy on board as part of what he sees as a new management dream team. Quennec said Bellamy wishes to continue playing and has received offers from a number of different countries. âHe wants to continue his playing career and has received offers from North America, Spain and England,â Quennec is quoted as saying. Kevin Cooper in Cardiff City action But of the former winger, who is development team coach at the Cardiff City Stadium, Quennec said: âKevin Cooper is the ideal man for the future of Servette. âHe is perfectly suited to your youth project having worked with the youngsters at Cardiff."
They must be offering a life time supply of Swiss rolls to go out there, it must be the wages as i cannot imagine that a side like Servette would have a better youth set up than us. On a side note i think we played Servette in about 1976ish in the ECWC. One Martin Chivers of Spurs fame played for them.
Correct isaw, 1976/77, beat them 1.0 at ours and lost 2.1 at theirs. We went through to play Dinamo Tbilisi in next round. Must have been on away goals or pens. There is no indication of which on Wiki and I can't remember. We lost 3.1 overall to Dinamo after a 1.0 win at ours. And yes, Chivers played for Servette alongside someone with the unfortunate name of Pfister.
I went to the home leg, think it was the one when Tony Evans netted very late? Or was that the Austria Memphis tie? European nights eh? Can still see Don Murray's penalty v Dynamo Berlin flying towards the Grange End in @71. Do you know City only had another 4 games in Europe after the 1977/8 season? It was largely the 2nd city, Wrexham & Newport County who did the welsh honours until City got back in late 80's and then early 90's versus Standard liege.
can remember the game just about Blue, remember the Grange end with a cringeworthy chant at Chivers......Chivers quivers brrrrrr. Something to do with the brand of jelly at the time. We have had worse since. Such as....We will always be blue...etc. Ok i'll get my coat. Ta Ra
Last European game I saw was Newport County v. Carl Zeiss Jena. Terrific game and atmosphere at the old (very old even then) Somerton Park. We wuz robbed!!! The new Newport played a friendly over there last summer and there is a return at Rodney Parade this pre-season.
