According to L’Equipe (french newspaper) the French GP will return from 2013 at the Paul Ricard circuit . However it comes at a heavy price, it will alternate with Spa on the calendar. So that means that we still get the brilliant and iconic Valencia GP which is a track that is a favourite of drivers and fans alike which constantly produce great races for another four years, while the coma inducing Spa track that has failed to produce one good race will only have to be suffered once every two years. Well done Bernie you have done it again.
Shambles, 2 bore races in Spain, multiple bore races in the middle east. Does it seem to me that Spa always is getting singled out for harsh treatment. Did Bernies wife cheat on him with the track owners or something. I know the whole arguement about money for and financing the event but it almost seems like a personal vendetta by Bernie
I've been expecting and dreading this news. Good to see France back but not at the expense of the iconic Spa. I'm becoming so disillusioned with F1 and the way it's run; they're stifling the sport to feed their greedy wallets and they do not care about the long-term future, the history or the fans.
even though the fans, drivers and teams have voiced their dislike for the valencia circuit, with facts backing up the apparent lack of overtaking, the FIA continue to ignore the people who keep them in their jobs and do what they like for small amounts of extra money. this is an entertainment sport, not a business.
Apparently the plans for the race share has stalled. Although the French GP still looks like returning, hopefully at the expense of Bahrain or Valencia.
Ah, you beat me to it Nevertheless great news and yes, hopefully at the expense of Bahrain (possible), Barcelona (possible) or Valencia (not possible, but I can dream)
Unfortunately not. F1 is very much a business. And in case it's not yet been noticed, it's also a dictatorship which decrees what the plebeian will be allowed to pay through the nose for. Bernie's attitude is very much in line with Murdoch's: neither of them like competition; and having monopolised their respective audiences, they set about extorting every last penny with neither regard nor interest in the wishes of those who pay. P.S. This is not the FIA's decision; it's Bernie's.
Exactly, Bernie doesn't have enough money, his daughters keep spending it faster than he can earn it, but yes, exactly like murdoch...W (large thing that stops a ship moving)
The French Grand Prix is close to returning and could alternate with Spa. http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/66916.html
You have to wonder about Valencia, its obviously there due to money but surely the sponsors will start to drop out as everyone will actually be asleep? So they either won't be seen, or if they are seen they'll be associated with boredom...
And don't forget Russia, Argentina want a race, the A-1 ring, Imola... If the teams could physically manage it, I think a 30 race calendar could easily be filled
