I read this morning that the EFL is to restart behind closed doors: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...d-closed-doors-tv-stream-online-a9470056.html According to this, the games will be live-streamed for fans to watch. I honestly can’t see this happening. I think this season is null and void, but the Independent seems to think otherwise.
The only way it's going to re-start is behind closed doors - I can't see football being played with crowds until July and beyond
tend to agree with all the testing going on [ or lack of peeps taking it up!!!!] footballers could be a squad tested & kept in isolation for 7 days then play 4 games in say 12/13 days. Then 7 days off before another 4 in 12/13 days that would be about 6 weeks with 1 game to play ……. [ or it could be set up that 7 games played and 2 for each team to have either game 45 or 46 at home that would take 2 months to complete. ] next season starts end of Aug [ last SAT ] and runs through to June
I've watched games on the red button without commentary or crowd noise, it's awful. With a 3 month break and then resume playing games 2 or 3 times a week it will still, for me, be false. On my own but I'd end it now. Liverpool champions, no relegation from the Prem, WBA and Leeds promoted and 5 down from the Prem next season. Somebody else can work out what happens in the rest of the EFL.
"WE ARE SO USED TO HAVING A FOOTBALL SEASON RUNNING BETWEEN CERTAIN DATES" but does it need to be so? We could pick up the remainder of this season and play it off weekend / mid week see what is left before we next season. Players contracts to be worded "at end of the season" [ they have a contract for 3 and a half seasons or 2 seasons etc not years stipulated ] .. we do not know how this pandemic will pan out … could last 3 years! we all might have to have outdoor clothes of full face mask and body cover . wear gloves and carry sanitizer!!!!! It might take 4 years to complete 3 seasons!
Me I think the way it will go following lock down. Allowed back to work but maintaining social distancing and people able to, will carry on working from home. Few other changes then possibly sports behind closed doors but not until the above in operation for a few weeks. Later this year restaurant’s will open but at reduced capacity maintaining social distancing. Pubs and clubs to be opened. Social gatherings can then be reintroduced. Remember the Spanish flu killed more than the first world war, but that was on the second wave. So I don’t expect normality to return, towards end of the year.
From a health perspective this sounds sensible but I can’t see pubs and restaurants surviving this plan. They were at breaking point before all this and shutting down at a record rate.
For most of football yes. Football has been structured in this Country to run between dates as it is across the globe. If the EPL's results were expunged similar to what has occurred throughout leagues below the EFL it can still carry on regardless. Semi pro contacts will start from footballs new start date. The EPL can do similar if results are expunged. It will be more problematic due to the EFL having less assets and projected earnings, but if football is in this together it is not impossible to do and ensure safety of clubs. This would preserve footballs alignment from its roots upwards.
makes no sense really you have the prem wittering on about to many fixtures for the top 6 -8 clubs to add 4 more games seems ridiculous … then you have the PREM SHARE OUT... 3 clubs will be relegated normally but then it will 5 .. bear in mind no parachute for next season as still in the Prem! so year after will be 5 parachute payments as the 3 who had maybe been entitled miss out on actually being the 3 that would have gone down and could be 3 others ...
All these weird and wonderful suggestions, why not just leave it until we can start again and then just start from where we left off. I get contracts and the like may be an issue but they will have to be dealt with anyway. Behind closed doors I don’t think will work , games aren’t the same, its too sterile.
I love the weird and wonderful.. BREAKS UP THE DAY.... live streaming … with a "DJ" playing crowd music, as the backing track with cheers boo's etc played over the top
League football exists because of fans. playing a spectator sport with no one watching it?? just ****ing scrap it. football makes itself look like its ran by selfish ****s because they are.
Playing multiple matches behind closed doors at any level is a stupid idea Here's my preference as the tables stand right now I don't care what happens to the Premiership ! Top 2 from the Championship get promoted - Leeds & WBA Bottom 3 go down - Luton, Charlton, Barnsley Top 3 up from L1 - Coventry, Rotherham, Oxford Bottom 3 go down - Tranmere, Southend, Bolton Top 4 up from L2 - Crewe, Swindon, Exeter, Plymouth L2 Bottom Team (currently Stevenage) relegated Top 2 from National League get promoted, currently Barrow and Harrogate Town Bottom 4 relegated - Ebbsfleet, Maidenhead, Fylde, Chorley Top 2 from National League North promoted - York City, Kings Lynn Bottom 2 relegated - Blyth Spartans, Bradford Park Avenue Top 2 from National League South promoted - Wealdstone, Havant & Waterlooville Bottom 2 relegated - Braintree, Hungerford Town 5 down from the Premiership 2020/2021 League is then back to 92 teams overall following the folding of Bury
uuuuuummm a bit sharp ! it is a spectator sport that supports the sport ...like most, to curtail it would be totally unfair to all those that have paid good money, braved the elements and gone through thick and thin. it would please very few and disappoint a great many others … a fifth of the season still remains and if you go back through the tables and take tranches of 9 games and compare at different times there can be quite interesting differences...……. [ this latter comment is also applicable to angelic's post...…..] without going deeply into what teams have to still play NOTTS CTY and FYLDE could well be better placed … lge 2 STEVENAGE LOOKED NAILED however at the top not so simple Cheltenham HAVE A GAME IN HAND … and fixtures seem to favour them …. DIV1 …. 8 teams in with a chance of promotion! and 6 of being relegated! [ 2 plus 1 of 4 ] CHAMPIONSHIP...… stakes are higher here Whilst it is difficult see either of the top 2 not going up it is not impossible 1 might be a playoff contender!.. and as i wrote back in end of Feb early March before shut down there is 13 teams vying to be top or top 6... that would be the fans and teams of 11 teams that would be bitterly disenchanted..... Relegation … 8 teams in fear of the drop …. Luton and Barnsley looked likely but all 8 are candidates to have a good run /bad run …. I think throwing away the parameters of season start and finish dates for next 2 or 3 years may be necessary... if COVID -19 is as unstable as some make out we will need to cut all ties with areas of the world that are behind [time wise] the pandemic as they will be the sparks, like in forest fires that drift in the wind and cause another …………………
It's never going to be possible to please every club I agree that there are several permutations in all leagues but the only options are 1) Finish the entire season for all leagues even if the matches are played behind closed doors with no spectators 2) Annul the season and scrub all results and fixtures which would be very hard on the likes of Liverpool and Barrow but would save the bacon of teams like Bolton, Southend and Stevenage 3) Implement some form of compromise such as the one I've suggested, but as you've rightly pointed out, it will upset many teams who believe they will overtake teams above them to either gain promotion or avoid relegation. After a gap of 48 years since their relegation when teams had to apply for re-election when finishing in the bottom 2 (or 4?) of the old Division 4, I really want Barrow to get their rightful promotion back to the EFL
Scrap it now. Just start the bloody season again in September. If it's unfair to any club then get the Chairmen to explain their problems to the Spitfire pilots of 2020. I really can't believe we're having a conversation about football. In the grand scheme of things - Football is Bubble Gum.
Exactly. Melksham Town in the Southern League whose ground is opposite an old RAF base were in their highest position their history and could have been promoted. the league was binned they are relying on fan donations to get them through the next few months and their reaction was to support the league being scarped as they 110% agreed because things are bigger than football. makes the pro game look **** and selfish.
