Firstly, Seeing that I've picked this up from the article about Tom James signing with Watford, Congratulations to Tom, It must be a great moment for him and I think the club have done really well there. Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere but it says in the article that Watford played a "behind closed doors" friendly against Sunderland last week. Being behind closed doors obviously limits reaction somewhat but does anybody know generally how it went or even the score?
It was our reserve squad. We won 1-0.Sunderland's second-string slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Watford in the capital as they continue to work through their pre-season programme. In what was a high-tempo affair, both Sunderland and Watford fielded a side featuring many members of their first team squads. Lining up for Keith Bertschin's team were George McCartney, Nyron Nosworthy and Matt Kilgallon, all of whom spent the majority of last season out on loan. Both sides started well, in what was an early pre-season work-out for both teams. Jordan Cook made a nuisance of himself in and around the box but couldn't convert any of his early chances. Sunderland keeper Lewis King was rarely called into action as Adam Reed helped boss the midfield and give the Black Cats most of the possession. It was more of the same in the second half, as Cook went close again only for the crossbar to deny him. James Armstrong went close with a chance from the edge of the area, but was blocked by the Watford stopper. Bertschin changed it round just after the hour mark, making five substitutions, but it wasn't to be Sunderland's day as the home side nicked a late goal when Michael Kalu broke away from Connor Oliver to fire the ball home and seal the win for the Hornets. Sunderland: King, Bagnall (Marrs 60), McCartney, Reed, Nosworthy, Kilgallon (Oliver 70), Cook, Deacon (Elliott 60), Armstrong (Gorrin 60), Liddle (Watson 60), Laidler (Mitchell 60)
I suspect that its from a Sunderland source. As happened last time we played a behind closed doors friendly the info was better from the opponents than on our site.
