Mev Brown said the only way to tackle the problem of people asking for money on the street was to cut off the cash at source. He said many homeless people spotted on the streets of the Capital were not in fact homeless, and made a healthy income from pretending to be. He added that if the issue was not addressed, it would not be long before child beggars would be occupying the streets. âThe publicâs generosity is being ruthlessly exploited,â said Mr Brown, who has worked with homeless people in Edinburgh for almost a decade. âThe only effective solution I can see is on-the-spot fines for those giving money to beggars.â http://www.scotsman.com/news/education/call_to_cut_off_beggars_1_1939986 Is this the correct way to deal with beggars? The ones in Glasgow are by and large being pimped out by gang bosses, they tend to operate in teams of 2 (as can be seen at Heilleman's Umbrella in Glasgow). I personally would not give them one brass farthing (if indeed I had a brass farthing) but I don't see why the person who is being conned out of their money by these charlatans should be punished, perhaps if the by-laws were updated or the current laws regarding vagrancy were used. then we could wipe these parasites off the streets. Would you give money to one for any reason? I would not, not because i'm uncharitable or have no heart, simply because in 99.9% of cases it's a scam.
no wonder you were a polis what sort of sick thread is this, this is worse than so called racism, i can never walk past someone on the street without giving them something, if i see someone lying outside a greggs or something, ill bring them out a cup of a tea and sausage roll you are a heartless ****, years of being a police and murderer has ****ed you up if its a scam i will still square them up because they have earned it by pulling off the homeles act
If the beggar is an alky or a smack head I will give him/her the money but the Romanians get **** all. As you say they are pimped out. Belfast is swarming with the bastards. You go out for a smoke on a night out and the ugly bastards are over to you with that fake smile on their chops and a single Big Issue they have no intention of parting with. On the OP this proposal is worse than arresting a punter for paying a whore. Stupid and would probably be a law that would be illegal to enact.
Did anyone see the Panorama special on the Romanian beggars? Disgraceful. The leaders are living the life of luxury in mansions back in Romania. Why don't the police and authorities do something about it?
I always give beggars money. Imagine your life was that bad that you had to beg for money. poor bastards. Mon the beggars!!
Have never given a penny to the Romanian "beggars", they can **** off. However there have been times where there is someone obviously from here who has found themselves on the streets through misfortune and a few wrong turns in life. I have helped a few of these in my time. I dont give them money, they will only spend it on booze. I usually buy them a take away cup of tea, sausage roll or sandwich or something similar
I have no problem giving them a few bob for a tin of beer or bottle of cider. Poor bastards are going to do it anyway.
I gave a toilet attendant £50 once. beat that for foolishness. I was in the corinthian and had just won £3k and all I had was 50s &100s. <billybigtime> I'm ****ing skint now, actually in the red
I never give money to beggars who ask for it. I have on occasion given money to homeless folk who are, for example, sheltering in a doorway and minding their own business. Sometimes given them some grub if I was en route from the pub to the shop and back. We once tried an experiment on Union Street in Glasgow after getting hassled by beggars outside the pub. As we proceeded up the street toward the next boozer one of us asked random passers by for a quid. If they gave us a quid we gave them two back. In the space of about 10 minutes we 'earned' about 14 quid. Nice little earner.
I worked with a guy who left a £7000 tip to a waitress in New York. It was reported in the British Press which is why we found out.
I give money to Buskers if they are any good, they are providing a service....Those statue pricks can **** off
