So I have recently been away on a two week holiday and when I left I was positive we would stay up. We had games against Fulham and West Brom to come and I was sure we would pick up 3 points from one of them and then get another win from somewhere. How quickly things can change. I really want to be wrong bu I think we need 6 points to stay up and I cant even see us getting 3 at the moment. I am not one that likes to blame luck as we have been poor for a large chunk of this season but even against Liverpool at the weekend I felt we were unlcuky. Then, I was hoping to be facing Moyes Man Utd only for him to be sacked before we play them. Most frustratingly, I have never really felt like we would go down this season until this last week. We have been out of the relegation zone for most of the season and I think the issue is that we havent had any momentum at any point. I really hope we can get stuck into Uts at the weekend and the players give it their all. Oh, and we dont concede a goal before we start playing like we can!!!
I think the first half performance is key, against Liverpool our first half wasn't that great, it's our weak area.
I dunno, Sunderland have three winnable home games to come, I'm with Mark that I think we might well need two wins - though I guess there is still a chance that Villa or WBA could still get dragged into it.
Liverpool thrashing Chelsea tomorrow would be good, get them demoralised and 8 points behind for when they play us.
I can see mathematically that could happen, though I think it's unlikely that Sunderland will actually win all three, but the key for me is that if Sunderland win the West Brom game the brummies may well be into the mix... I know the table always looks a little odd when teams at the bottom have shock wins like Sunderland did, but I think these weekends generally mask the reality and actually we will see the safe team needing 36 points or 35 and a good goal difference. Still, anything can happen. We might win all our next three and not have to worry at all!!
Liverpool beating Chelsea will most likely means Chelsea will be playing for nothing when they play us, so another plus. A win tomorrow will drag other teams back into the relegation battle and I was feeling fairly confident until United sacked Moyes.
The timing of the Moyes sacking I think will work against us. There was talk of them not wanting to finish high enough to qualify for the Europa league, now Giggs is demanding a strong finish to the season. The players & crowd will really be up for it Saturday, just our ****in **** luck !
Whilst there us always a chance it is highly likely we will get nothing from the last three games. We are not good enough. There is no way we will beat Utd or Chelsea away. Possibly get something at home to Arsenal but teams below us losing us our best hope. I hope I am wrong and will happily receive abuse if they do well, but the damage has been done for me. Championship beckons.
