Religion is just a easy way to start a war etc.
It has to be corrupted to become that.

I think some people don't realise that religion was created to bring order and to educate the uneducated. In that it served its purpose very well, but it has been replaced by the search for facts, not fable. If the New Testament gives a moral guide and is a source of comfort and reflection, then all well and good. The various people who wrote up the teachings of Jesus Christ picked up on some very good lessons to live a life by, so as a moral compass, there are worse things to go by than the Bible. But that must be where the lesson ends. If I understand you correctly, I also think that there is little conflict in Evolution and the New Testament.
With apologies to those who still think the Bible is a history book.

A moderator debating/discussing religion..... whatever next?
Why not..? As long as it's in moderation..!OK, I'm leaving...
I think that without religion, there'd be anarchy as there are no foundations on how you should live your life and moral guidelines. There is a fair bit of war over different religious interpretations, however, as well as religion holding back technology and science.
Well I certainly didn't get my morals from religion.

I'm talking about the 'thou shalt not kill', not to commit adultery, the seven deadly sins and to live a good life and then be rewarded in heaven and punished in hell if you do not, although what compromises as 'good'? Obviously the bits about forcing others to comform to your religion by whatever means, anti-homosexuals and anti-abortion bits are immoral but a fair few have ignored those bits and modernised their beliefs.
