QPR striker answers Sparky's call By Tim StreetFeb 15 2012Add a comment Recommend inShare JAMIE Mackie has already answered Mark Hughes' call for his QPR squad to beef up. In the aftermath of Saturday's defeat at fellow strugglers Blackburn, the Rs boss ordered his side to muscle up and take teams on physically. And Mackie, who already looks like he is benefiting from extra time spent in the gym following nine months on the sidelines, is feeling fitter than ever. Mackie said: âWhen you spend a long time on the sidelines like I did, you get to work on other parts of your game, and I did spend a lot of time working in the gym. âI'm feeling the benefits now. I'm much fitter and stronger than before, and at a time of season when players are starting to tire, I am still feeling really fresh. "What the gaffer said was fair enough, but when you are playing teams in and around you at the bottom, it is always going to be a battle, and we have to do better." You can't fault the guys attitude and effort. Don't rate him to be honest but this is one time when i would be very happy to be proved wrong. He is still pretty young after all.
Agree with col, Bobby not the striker to get in and around the 6 yard box, he prefer to play just behind the front man but Mackie has shown he can, definitely worth a shot. One thing is for certain, Jamie will run himself into the ground each game and we won't be questioning his effort.
If everyone put as much effort in as Mackie we wouldnt be where we are in the League. He obviously isnt the most technically gifted guy but at least he works hard.
i'm not too sure about Mackie to be honest, haven't really seen a good 90 minute game from him yet. Yes he runs his socks off, yes he scores goals: all of which he can do very competently in 30 mins or so, but, does he want to be a benched man for us. I dont think so.....but then again, hughes prefers hulse to smith, so starnger things have happened (like hairstyle machieda - what is he still doing here?)
He's akin to an attacking Marc Bircham type: All running around, sometimes with no end product but sometimes with a vital contribution. (Although Birch said on Talksport the other night he reminds him of a young Gareth Ainsworth!)
