Becchio's agent Horacio Rossi has spelt it out. He explained to Sky:"Luciano is on a spectacular run of form at the moment and for that reason Leeds came to us at the moment that Europa League clubs declared their interest in Luciano." "As the club had declared that they would not accept any offer in this transfer window, I proposed to them the idea of extending Luciano's contract with Leeds until 2017 so that Luciano could end his career at the club." "But for a new contract, there has to be an improvement. The offer that they made to us was insufficient. We respect the club's efforts, but it isn't enough." "Leeds is like a home for Luciano. He feels respect and love for the club's fans. He has the best intentions of staying. He was willing to give up a lot of money to stay at Leeds." "Luciano has to think about his family. He has three children. He has to look for security for them. He is 29-years-old, not 25. He is only a footballer once." "Leeds say that Luciano is the most expensive player in their squad. They said on their website that he is the player who earns most but I don't know if this is true. It doesn't seem right to me. I don't know what (El-Hadji) Diouf, or (Ross) McCormack earn."
I thought Diouf was on a pretty low wage even after signing an extension so I'd imagine Becchio is on more than him and was offered more as well. Doubt McCormack is on more than Becchio either, after one good season.
Warnock and GFHBates treatment of Becchio is nothing short of scandalous. Constant digs and snipes at him for past four weeks to the extent, some supporters seem glad to see him going. Of course, dates back to last January, when they failed to get him to go to Hull. Last player we will probably ever have to deserve hero status. Management and directors at Leeds stink
The only stink is that of the supporters who do nothing but criticise the club. Becchio was offered a substantial pay rise and a 3.5yr contract and turned it down. Bye Bye
Can hardly blame anyone for criticising the club after everything that's happened and nothing seems to have changed. For all we know, we offered Becchio £20-25k a week and he still turned it down and then that's perfectly acceptable. But our fans will be cynical, and until the club manages to convince us all otherwise that they have money and are going to push us in the right direction, they will continue to be so.
Whats happened though ? We've been taken over, the new owners have listened to the fans. Half season tickets, lowering ticket prices, silencing Bates, offering improved contracts to key players. F*ck me they have only been in charge two minutes give them a chance.
I'm with you mate, I think we should wait until after summer to fully evaluate their performances. They're new to football and they need time to instill a new system and change everything to their taste. But I'm just saying we shouldn't have a go at fans who criticise the club or have lost faith - after the last 7 years they have just as much right to as we do to have some level of faith, however misplaced it may turn out to be
Will make £750,000 from what will be a live sell out at city.could pay Becchio an extra £5,000 a week without it effecting any budgets.
[NSFW][/NSFW]IMO, GFH don't have any budgets. They just want to cut costs and sell us. Stinks of Portsmouth. They don't know what they are doing, and Shaun Harvey makes all the day-to-day decisions, including the reduced prices in Feb. Looks like they may take on my proposal to find out the fans' commitment by offering ST prices at £150 cheaper and get contractual agreement from at least 15000 or 16000 fans, but only if they get that number of ST holders takeing them up on it. They are just a holding organisation, hoping to sell us by cutting our costs and making a killing. But with LUFC, and as they have zero experience in football, I think they have bitten off more than they can chew. I juts hope they keep us steady instead of blowing up like Pompey, and in time we will get some proper owners in Just my opinion of course.
TB, you're quoting the club's story. As I read it, LB's agent said that they asked for a contract extension, which the club duly drew up, but it was on exactly the same terms that he's on right now - i.e. no pay rise. Someone's lying, but it's difficult to choose who - a club with a recent record like ours versus an agent from an industry where you can generally trust them as far as you can throw them. Toughie for most of us, but you seem to have made your mind up!
I think people want to believe things have changed so are assuming that Becchio's asking for something ridiculous. He could be, but as you say, a club with a reputation like ours? Chances are we've probably offered him reduced terms
What they have done so far means **** all if they don’t sign a hell of a player in this window. Or at least tell us that they have a plan and that this season is write of And another thing you have failed to see is the signaling effect to other players if they see Becchio go because the club did not have the money. Warnock has said he wants to sign prem quality players. Then answer me this, how the hell do you think we can sign any prem quality players if we are not prepared to pay the going rate for them?
Obviously no one knows but it is said to be a prem wage offer http://www1.skysports.com/football/...iano-Becchio-could-leave-if-replacement-found
