And I have to say, he's not the only one. With early season injuries to Hooper and now a prolonged absence for RvW, it does make you wonder why he was brought to the club at all (unless purely to expedite the departure of Steve Morison). Plus he was refused loan opportunities, apparently, as he was 'needed' here as a back-up striker. There's been much talk lately about Hughton's abilities as a 'motivator' and a 'man manager' - try explaining those qualities that to Yorkshire's favourite Argentinean Plus, as a squad, we're not exactly prolific ion front of goal just now, either! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/norwichs-luciano-becchio-mystified-chris-2858715?
you can't help feeling sorry for the guy can you cromer. he's told he is needed, then when we have injuries, he's an used substitute - late subs by hughton being another nail in his coffin i wonder if he will try and force a move in january
It certainly makes no sense not to either play him or move him on. Hughton and his staff obviously don't rate the guy,so admit he was a poor signing and let the guy continue his career elsewhere. I personally would give him a try,but I aint the manager.
Michael Bailey pointed out on twitter that the loan window for Football League clubs opened on Tuesday, 10 September and closes at 17:00 GMT on Thursday, 28 November. He thinks Becchio has spoken out to trigger a 'come and get me before 5.00 p.m. today' plea? That's always assuming the staff at Carrow Road are prepared to loan him out, of course?
Hughton's response: All fair comments, I suppose. I always find the concept of players being "harshly" treated simply because they're not being played an odd one - sure, if they're made to train with the reserves or youth or on their own, it could be harsh. But if they're not being picked to start, they're obviously not playing well enough in training. I for one don't think Becchio could have done much better than any of our other strikers so far this season, the problem isn't them...
The comments, particularly the 'discipline' bit, was a little surprising to me, because it kind of implies to me that it took this article before Hughton and Becchio spoke about how Becchio was feeling. By my reckoning, Becchio has only played 184 minutes of competitive football for Norwich since signing, you'd have thought he'd have raised his concerns before now! As to being hard done-by, it really depends how he's getting on in training. If Elmander and Hooper are super lazy and he's the one asking for extra training, then you can see why he'd be annoyed. But if he's not really doing anything to justify his inclusion ahead of the others, then it's hardly surprising when you compare his pedigree with that of our other strikers. As to letting him out on loan, it's awkward because until RvW's fully fit I don't think we can allow him to, which is a shame, as sending him out with a 24hr recall would be ideal.
Understandable reaction from Becchio, but wrong way to voice it, as Hughton has since pointed out, doubt if it will make his chances of starting any more likely.
I can also sympathise with Becchio, but I'm also not surprised that with 3 new strikers coming in during the summer, he is finding it hard to get game time. He came in to replace Morison behind Holt and now the situation has changed drastically. Had Quagliarella been signed in the summer, I doubt that Becchio would still be in the squad. Any PL team really needs 4 strikers and, unfortunately for him, he is the 4th.
Yes, I'm sure you are right. Combination of circumstances making it necessary to keep him. Maybe January will bring a solution in the shape of another striker coming in and allowing Becchio to go.
I would quite like to see him and Hooper up front. Becchio has always looked decent in the air and links up well with Howson. Not overly keen on Salamander starting tbh
I'm still holding out for Toivonen in and Becchio out. Toivonen then becomes a serious challenger for Howson, and can be 4th choice striker should injuries hit RvW, Hooper and Elmander.
How do we know that Becchio hasn't being doing enough in training? The people who support Hughton are quick enough to blast the doubters whenever we say something that is speculation, and yet we are supposed to accept this piece of speculation as fact. As they would doubtless say to us, how do they know that if they aren't physically there in the training sessions? From this distance, it doesn't seem as if Becchio has been handled very well at all. But that's speculation, too, before someone tells me so.
I don't think anyone's said that. I think what was meant is that we really have very little visibility of the truth here, which means it's difficult to compare to, e.g., the Lappin saga. You might be right, but it's impossible to know.
Absolutely. Far too much jumping to conclusions and unsubstantiated opinion, which is why I queried Dave's and Resurgam's accusations of "disloyalty" against Phelan and Bruce (on the other thread). Resurgam responded by giving his reasons (which may nevertheless still only be part of a much more complex truth); so far Dave hasn't replied regarding Phelan.
So, from his published remarks, does Ibrahimovich (likes him as a playing partner for Sweden). The two of you can't both be wrong! Edit: and for the record, I like him too. Clever player.
PSV are 8th out of 10 in the Erdevisie, 2 points off the bottom (although 5 points behind Ajax in second and 7 behind leaders Vitesse). Also it is clear that nobody else wants him or they would have made a move over the summer.
russ, aren't there 20 teams in the erdevisie? the press are reporting he is stalling on signing a new contract and that Newcastle are interested in him in the Jan transfer window
Today PSV will release a statement on the Toivonen situation, according to Technical Director Marcel Brands, it will enlighten everyone on why things took so long to clear up between the club and his agent Raiola. Everybody, including the PSV fans, hate Toivonen's guts right now and want rather gone than add a year to his contract. Raiola clearly doesn't want the extension because when Toivonen transfers as a free agent, he and Toivonen get massive bonusses in singing on fees etc. And I doubt Norwich are willing to pay millions in pounds for a player that has been performing appalling and doesn't even look like he's trying on the pitch this season. This guy is a total disaster for PSV right now.
