Carl Fletcher looks like he will be able to say........as Manager I kept Argyle up and out of the Conference.

TRUE OR FALSE.......ok the end result looks like that will be so.

Will it be true that Fletchers management skills, although he is inexperienced kept us in DIV2.

    OR

Despite of Fletchers lack of management skills the team was good enough to stay up with out him....does that sound unkind ?

The inevitable question then is will Carl Fletcher be rewarded with another contract to manage Argyle next season.....and does he deserve it ?

WHAT DO YOU THINK.....remember this is typed before the watershed........oh I forgot this is not the telly.

I should of added that I've discovered why Argyle don't score many goals.........

On Sparksy's interview after the match....(yes another painful experience).....Fletcher said that "clean sheets win matches"....... no Carl that isn't quite true.......it only means you don't lose.......goals and plenty of them win matches and takes the stress away for the team .......and the long suffering fans.

People would blame Fletcher if the club got relegated so in the same way you must give him credit for the fact it hasn't happened. The question of his future management is another whole thing altogether. I really cannot make up my mind which way I would vote on that one. My feeling is he will be made an offer on a reduced wage. Do I agree he should be though.....................pass.

To be fair he was a novice manager and probably kept us up even if it was the hard way....if he is selected for next season then he must be reviewed after 8/10 games in charge!

If he said that during the interview then it confirms it is indeed his fault we are playing this way. If he stays and tactics don't change he has to go early into next season.

That's where it is so hard to judge. We have had backs to the wall all season and were losing regularly. He has adopted a tactic where we have at least become much harder to beat and the points tell the story of that. It isn't pretty but it has been effective for what it was needed for. Would anyone have wanted lovely flowing football and then BSP football next term? Don't think so. When we start a season on the same playing field as all the others then this sort of football won't be the order of the day as it should not be backs to the wall time again. It is so hard to judge him when he has had to fight so much just to stay up let alone put in a challenge. If we played the same way next season and won 30 games 1 - 0 would anyone be objecting. It's amazing what winning will do to the way we view **** football.

It is absolutely the case that being hard to beat is the primary requisite for success. Tactics obviously play a part and perhaps its is hard to be tight at the back AND thrilling up front, but so do the recruitment of Purse & Blanchard. Good defenders come with no downsides. I've always thought throughout our plummet through the leagues that tightening up the defence, which used to regularly concede stupid headed goals from free-kicks & corners, was the No 1 priority. Where would we be now if that hadn't happened?

With a sound defence in place, you can always move towards being more creative up front. Without it, you can do jack ****. Maybe next season, with the pressure of impending financial oblivion and/or relegation released and a little more headroom in the wage budget, there can be improvement at the other end of the pitch.

I wasn't convinced by Fletcher's appointment - amongst other things, I'm wasn't sure it won't prove to be a poison chalice that did him as much harm as it did PAFC. But if he keeps us up after the nose dive we were in, then he should be given credit for what he has achieved so far.

Keeping clean sheets, wins games so Carl Fletcher told us last week.........there didn't seem to be much effort put into doing anything but defend at Swindon yesterday.

So does that mean if Swindon had not scored we would have won.

I think it's a case of back to the drawing board.........or maybe back to the classroom and check basic maths.

Yes, this policy he has on defending from the onset is a very worrying part of Fletcher's managing ethos.

I suppose it makes Fletchers life easier playing a 1 10 formation <laugh>

In our position I can't see what the problem is. We needed to stop shipping goals and we are no longer doing that. If Swindon had not scored as plymborn puts it we would have had a point and would have thought that was a decent return in our situation so it is not that bad a tactic even if it is rubbish to watch. In the first half of the season we would have been dicked by Swindon.

Staying in the football league will be job done as far as I'm concerned no matter how it's done. However, next season it will not be what I expect to see. I forgive it at the moment because needs must.
