What a show from the kiddies tonight at Old Trafford in the Semi Final first leg of the FA Youth Cup! We come back to the Bridge (I think thats where its destined to be played) with a 2-1 advantage and a draw will be good enough to see us through to the final! The important thing is that we looked a class above them throughout and fingers crossed we have a potential important trophy lined up! I remember when I was a kid watching our lot beat Preston ,with our juniors of the day, to win this cup! The next year most of them were our first team regulars who very nearly won the league! Tambling , Bridges, Murray, Venables, Butler, Shellito et al. Could it happen again?
. They can all take a bow, United had a brief period of dominance in the latter part of the 1st half but they couldn't penetrate our lads. Be a massive thing if they can win the youth cup again!
It'll be played at the Bridge most likely, the last 2 semi have. I went last season against United and we let a lead slip then got hammered in the second leg. United are a different proposition this season as they have lost players who have moved on or are too old. Chelsea's kids are now mostly in their second year and are more experienced.
Terrific result for the kids. Hope many of them come through to the big kids squad, AND get to play. Trust in youth, depend on experience. Put them together and watch them go.
Todd Kane is very decent & I like the look of Amin Affane too. Chalobah should make the grade at a high level and then there's Piazon. We seem to be in good hands but then I thought that after the last youth cup victory when we had Josh & Jeffrey Bruma.
This is the culture I'd experienced throughout the years until we got a new owner! Now when we need to fill a new space in the team, it has to be brought in at large expense from somewhere on the planet! I'm hoping new rules in FIFA/EUFA--balancing books etc might provide better chances for the future! I'd hate to see some of these go on to international glory with another club!
I see in the latest Chelsea mag, that the second leg is being played on Friday 13th April/ Monday 16th April??? Surely cant be on both days can it? First half on Friday , second half on Monday? Anyone know?
It's on Friday 13th April, KO 7pm. It would have been moved to Monday 16th April had we not progressed against Benfica.
