Ok, it was only a friendly last night, but wasn't it great when the TV cameras panned on the crestfallen faces of 65,000 Hun, all contemplating the prospect of being humiliated by the Old Enemy and then having to explain it to their new Syrian neighbours and workmates the next day There is a danger that last night's result will see us going OTT- Woy is still a boring Cautious Colin, who is guaranteed to turn wine into water once we face the might of Wales and Slovakia this summer. I have two thoughts about the team having watched our Teutonic triumph last night: 1. Time to end the extended benefit granted to that fat Irish baldy Rooney. The fella is a joke and his form this season for United would see him struggle to terrorise Rod Fanni, let alone the cream of European defences. If Woy is taking 4 strikers to the Euros, it has got to be Kane, Ali, Vardy and Sturridge IMO. 2. Not impressed with Henderson or Cahill last night. How do 2 Liverpool players get to start in central midfield? Carrick is a much better passer, and we badly need a fit John Stones back as Cahill is an accident waiting to happen. There is still more chance of Katrien Meire passing a lie detector test than England winning the Euros, but last night wasn't bad at all
Rooney still has value, but neither Woy or LVG seem capable of utilizing him consistently. More pressing IMO is the fact jack wilshere will seemingly be able to simply walk back in - ahead of Dier and Alli. Hodgson stumbled across a winning formula last night. Whether he has the bottle to drop players from the "big 4(5)5" remains to be seen.
As much as I enjoyed it I honestly believe beating the world champions away from home is the worst thing that could've happened. A draw would've been better IMHO. Expectations were very low prior to last night now they've gone through the roof...!! I've seen it all too often with England and I refuse to be sucked in again. Qualifying in style and winning friendlies is all well and good, but that means nothing when you perform as wretchedly as we usually do when we arrive at a major tournament. On what I saw last night... I though we looked very good. Pro's...: ● Smalling... barring one lapse he's beginning to look like a really good Centre Half. ● Kane... Lead the line well. Good with his back to and facing goal. ● Alli... the epitome if a proper England midfielder. Full of energy, fearless and tireless in covering ground from box to box (should've scored though). ● Dier... looks completely at home in the Defensive Midfield role. A square peg in a square hole. Just what we need. He brilliantly screened our two Centre Halves and afforded our other more creative midfielders the freedom to play. ● We applied intelligent pressure in good areas. ● We break quickly when we win possession. ● We carry a genuine goal threat. ● Good cohesion through the spine of our team with Dier, Alli and Kane. ● Fearless youngsters who didn't look overawed by the occasion. Cons...: ● I dont believe our Fullbacks are top international quality. All too often they got dragged in too narrow affording Germany way too much room in advanced wide areas. ● Gary Cahill... he really struggled last night. Is Stones the answer...? He can't even get in the Everton side. Sadly I see no genuine alternative. ● Rooney & Wiltshire... it seems they have a god given right to play when fit. I'm not saying I wouldn't take them (for sure I'd take Rooney) but no one player is greater than the team and for me neither of them would start our first game of Euro 2016. I'm hopeful but not expectant...
We were in 5th gear, whereas Germany were in 1st all game. We played very well but must not kid ourselves, Germany were pretty poor. Astounding that Henderson and Lallana started, what's the point?
I just fear he will walk back in if fit. Roy pretty much said that pre Germany. Though I would play him over Henderson. He genuinely thinks he's better than he is and is horribly exposed at international level. A sad case of if he wasn't playing for Liverpool, he wouldn't have a look in.
I watched it in a pub opposite the hotel I was staying in for my little dirty weekend away. Was talking on the drive home, "should we drop Rooney permanently?" I know @SuperChrissyisfantasticPardswasatrocious reckons he has value, but he's such an under performer and only score his first World Cup goal last one (I believe). Take him, but shouldn't be starting one bit. Especially when you have players, performing to higher standards week in, week out. ----- Edit: I strongly believe that the FA tells the England manager he must play, due to the commercial agreements that he has with companies like Pepsi and Nike, etc. And that's why we'll never win a major tournament. Too much meddling for commercial profit, than about the sport
He was in excellent form before his injury, he is the best player we have got when on form. No he isn't the same player he was when he was younger, no he he won't win a game on his own like messi. People give him **** for England failing, but he can't help having absolute dross around him. They just aren't on his wave length. Maybe our new look team would accommodate him better. People that diss his scoring record should have a look at who Charlton scored most of his goals against, equally as unimpressive.
